continuous and ongoing component of every course. All students will have the opportunity to reassess<br />

one time within the specified two-week window for every major grade. The teacher is<br />

required to provide this opportunity for all students scoring below 70% on a major grade.<br />

The original and the re-assessment grade must be documented in the teacher’s grade book score<br />

notes. Only the higher of the two grades will be placed in the grade book when averaging grades for<br />

the reporting period.<br />

Re-teaching for individual or small groups of students will occur during specified times, such as<br />

class time or before or after school, in accordance with the campus Re-teach and Re-assessment<br />

Policy Plan. <strong>Teacher</strong>s must provide differentiated instruction during regular class time if more than<br />

30% of students fail to demonstrate mastery on an assessment.<br />

Re-assessment<br />

Re-assessment must occur on major grades. The evidence of re-assessment must be documented in<br />

the score notes of the teacher’s grade book including both the original and re-assessment grade.<br />

In order for students to receive re-assessment options, students must turn in major grade<br />

assignments and projects by the actual due date.<br />

Re-assessment must be completed within two weeks of the original assessment. Students must<br />

follow re-teach and re-assessment schedule developed by the home campus.<br />

Students are expected to take all assessments on the specified test day. Those who refuse to<br />

take the test on the specified test day will be receive a 0 and will not have an opportunity to reassess.<br />

(Exception: Parent note stating student had extenuating circumstances such as illness,<br />

death, family related issues, etc.).<br />

Each campus will develop a plan for monitoring the implementation of the Re-teach and Reassessment<br />

Policy.<br />

Re-assessment of major grades includes but is not limited to:<br />

Re-testing, using a different assessment<br />

Test corrections with justifications<br />

Written product<br />

M. TUTORIAL PROGRAM<br />

Tutoring will be provided for students in English, language arts, math, science and social studies.<br />

Tutoring will be provided during the school day or after school for students failing any of the<br />

designated subjects or for students functioning below grade level in any of these subjects.<br />

N. PROMOTION/RETENTION/PLACEMENT POLICIES<br />

1. Students must achieve an overall average of 70 or better for all courses taken in order to be<br />

promoted from one grade to another. Students must also achieve an average of 70 or better in<br />

each of the following: English, reading, math, science, and social studies.<br />

2. Students may attend extended year in order to make up a failed course. It may be possible to<br />

avoid placement or retention through extended year credit. Students who have failed a portion<br />

of the STAAR test will lose elective courses in order to make room in the schedule for the<br />

remedial program.<br />

3. Students who fail an academic course and/or a STAAR test and do not attend extended year or<br />

do not pass the course in extended year are eligible for retention.<br />

4. In exceptional cases, placement of a student at the appropriate grade level may occur with the<br />

approval of a campus committee.<br />

A student who attends at least 90 percent of the program days of a program under this section<br />

and who satisfies the requirements for promotion prescribed by Section 28.201 shall be<br />

promoted to the next grade level at the beginning of the school year unless a parent of the<br />
