If the above are followed as principles and procedures for assigning homework, then there<br />

need not be any specific guidelines concerning the maximum length of time students should<br />

spend on homework.<br />

5. Grade Reporting<br />

The grade reporting periods are determined by the district. The grade reporting period ends<br />

at the end of the school day on the last day of the grading period excluding final grading<br />

period. Cycle grades will not be exported into the district’s electronic grade book before<br />

the end of the grade reporting period.<br />

Excluding the final grading period, report cards will go home at the end of the week<br />

following the end of the previous grading period.<br />

Report cards will be sent home each nine weeks. Parents must sign and return a copy to the<br />

school. Parents of students making a failing grade in any subject must be notified and<br />

offered the opportunity for a conference with the teacher who issued the failing grade. Error<br />

in notification will not necessarily constitute a change of grade.<br />

Parents or guardians will be contacted by the teacher at any time during the reporting period<br />

that there is a clear indication the student is doing unsatisfactory work. In addition to the<br />

nine weeks report card, a progress report will be sent home at the end of the third and sixth<br />

week periods to the parents of all students. <strong>School</strong>s will have two nine week grades each<br />

worth 45% of the semester grade and the final exam grade will be the other 10%. Grades<br />

will be averaged to determine a yearly grade for each course.<br />

If a student, because of no fault of his own, cannot get in required work by the end of the<br />

grading period, the teacher will give the student an “I” (Incomplete) until the work is<br />

completed. The student must arrange with his teacher to complete his work within seven<br />

calendar days. The student is responsible to submit the work in seven calendar days, and<br />

the teacher is responsible to change the grade from “I” to a numeric grade using the <strong>District</strong><br />

Policy and following campus grade change procedures. If a numeric passing grade is not<br />

updated within the seven day period the student will remain ineligible through the next<br />

grading period.<br />

6. Late Work<br />

<strong>Teacher</strong>s are expected to work with students to turn in late work. To align practices with the<br />

belief that grades should reflect student mastery of skills and not student behaviors, students<br />

should have ample opportunities to complete assignments. <strong>Teacher</strong>s will employ RtI<br />

interventions to ensure student success and demonstration of student mastery. <strong>Teacher</strong>s<br />

should use professional judgment to align strategies and equitable opportunities for students<br />

to complete work considering extenuating circumstances, etc.<br />

Interventions<br />

Campuses will provide multiple intervention opportunities for students who have not<br />

completed assignments by the due date. These opportunities may include but are not limited<br />

to:<br />

Lunch study sessions<br />

Before/after school study sessions<br />

Major Grades (examples of major grades are listed on 16-4)<br />

If students do not submit work on time, teachers must begin intervention strategies to<br />

assist students in completing the assignment. Strategies must be aligned to individual<br />

campus strategies.<br />

Students may submit late work with ten points deducted for each day after the due date.<br />

After the third school day the highest grade will be a 70.<br />

<strong>Teacher</strong>s/departments have the option to extend the deadline or date to accept late work<br />

beyond the third day for a maximum of 70 points possible.<br />
