90 Creating Circles & Ceremonies 104. Blessing & Sharing The High Priest or High Priestess stands before the altar, wand outstretched over the food in one hand and goblet in the other. Each covener holds their own cup in both hands. The High Priest intones: Goddess who grows within the fields God who drives the beasts, Bless this food our planet yields And join us at our feast. We have Food where there is hunger, Love where there is isolation, Wisdom where there is doubt, And Strength where there is fear. Let us not forget to share our best With others at their worst So that the world may someday rest, Never hunger, never thirst Blessed Be! The coveners respond with “Never Hunger, Never Thirst. Blessed Be!” and all take a sip in salutation. They pour a little bit of the drink into the libation bowl. —Crow Dragontree 105. Bread & Water Blessing The seed of life is roused to grow By the passionate heat of the Sun’s desire. Thus we’re nourished; this we know By Earth and Sun; Rain, Wind and Fire. May you never hunger. From the Sea we all were born, Within the womb our souls ensnared. Unto the Well we shall return, Our lives, through Water, ever shared. May you never thirst! —Oberon Zell 106. Bread Blessing The seed of life itself Is roused by the heat of the Sun’s desire Fills the womb of the Earth’s belly Is kissed by the Air’s breath And caressed by Her flowing Waters. From these do we come By these are we nourished To these we return Blessed Be —Avilynn Pwyll, 1992 107. Autumn & Winter Bread Blessing Together we break bread. Our Lord died for when the grain was cut in the field it was His body sacrificed that we might be sustained by bread. Our Lord is living still in this loaf. Our Mother has created Him, sacrificed Him, now gifted him with new life in the loaf, gifted us with life through this loaf. We break bread together. Thus are we sustained, filled with His joy and power. We break bread together. Thus are we sustained not only by the bread but by each other’s company. So be it. —Francesca de Grandis 108. Bread Blessing Grain ripened by the Summer Sun Baked in the belly of the oven; The bread of life is the body of our Lord; May you always have sufficiency! —Oberon Zell 109. What a Friend We Have... What a friend we have in Cheez-Its; Saffron wafer of delight! Golden squares with central vision, Guiding us to clearer sight! If you hold your wafer To the bright and shining Sun, You can see the light beams shining through; What a friend we have in Cheez-Its, Snackrament we love to chew! Long past, in the Days of Legend, When Star Trek newly had its birth, Our ancestors met to honor Sacred Fridays with sweet mirth! And the precious snackraments Were passed around the Circle: Strange popcorn and the tasty yellow squares; What a friend we have in Cheez-Its; Pass on what the Ancients started there! —Maerian Morris

Book I: T he Magick Circle 91 7. Ending the Ritual All Good T hings By Oberon Zell-Ravenheart All good things must come to an end—at least until the next Circle. Attention is now refocused after the communion to send our magick out of the Circle and into the world to do its work. Now it is time to thank the deities and spirits, and bid farewell to the Elementals, all in reverse order of their invocation. There are several different terms for this. Some call this “banishing,” but that sounds rather unfriendly to us, so we prefer to consider this as “releasing” or “dismissing” the Elements. After this the Circle itself is released or opened, and with it all the power created by the ritual. T hanking the Deities This enchanted evening we have been blessed by the presence of our beloved God and Goddess, and/or other deities. They have been our special guests, and we must now thank them for coming, and say goodnight. If different people invoked them, those same individuals should now step forward to bid them farewell, and in reverse of the order in which they were first called. A farewell to the God, for example, might go something like this: Radiant Lord of Light and Laughter, Thank you for your blessings here. We are yours forever after— One with oak and sun and deer! Blessed Be! (all repeat, “Blessed Be!”) And then to the Triple Moon Goddess we might say: Lady of the Silv’ry Wheel, Maiden, Mother, ancient Crone, We bear within your mystic seal— We thank you, for we are your own! Blessed Be! (all repeat, “Blessed Be!”) Of course, if we are using chants or songs to call them in or say goodnight, everybody will join in together. Here’s a little chant we often use at HOME to thank both the God and Goddess together at the end of our ritual: Give thanks to the Mother Goddess; Give thanks to the Father Sun! Give thanks to the children in the garden where The Mother and the Father are one! (repeat at least three times; on the last, sing:) …The Mother and the Father have fun! If candles have been lit for the God and Goddess on the central altar, they should be put out now—rather than blowing them out they should either be pinched out with your fingers (lick them first!), snapped out (practice this!), or snuffed with a candle snuffer. The person putting out the candles might say something like: As these flames of the material world are darkened, They shall ever burn in the worlds beyond. The rite is ended; Blessed Be! (all repeat, “Blessed Be!”)
