and wait until the vibration fades completely. Your Temple is now ready for whatever ritual or
work of magick you wish to perform.
NOTE: The instructions to conduct these movements deosil (clockwise) are appropriate
for the Northern Hemisphere. South of the equator, it is considered more appropriate
to reverse the direction, and go around the Circle widdershins (counter-clockwise).
The word deosil actually means “sunwise,” indicating the direction of the Sun across the
sky, from left to right. This is fine if you are standing in the North temperate latitudes,
and facing the Southern sky. But if you are below the equator and facing the Sun as it
crosses the Northern sky, it appears to move from right to left. So “sunwise” in the
Southern Hemisphere is actually counter-clockwise! So when you read instructions for
the direction of movements in the Magick Circle, please take this into account, and
reverse the directions if you are in, say, Australia or South Africa!
Cleansing the Altar

Take up the wand and level it toward the salt. Begin circling the wand in wide, ever quickening
counterclockwise circles while envisioning a bright, white-to-yellow light blasting the
impurities from the salt and cleansing it. While this is occurring, say something akin to:
Creature of Earth, untainted and pure,
Be fit to dwell within this Circle.
Once cleansed, reverse the direction of the wand, directing green, earthy energies toward
the salt, infusing it with the element of Earth. While doing this, say:
Spirit of Earth accept this place,
Dwell within this sacred space.
Repeat the same thing with the bowl of Water (substituting the appropriate
words), then add three pinches of salt to the water.
Purity and Purity
Of Earth and of Water, Blessed Be.
Now turn your attention to the flame of the candle, then the incense.
Repeat the same action of purifying and charging, then combining
the elements by lighting the incense with the candle flame.
Setting Up and Announcing Intent
Set up your altar, light whatever candles you have for
illumination (except for the God and Goddess candles, which
will be lit as part of the rite itself). Announce the beginning of the ritual
and have everybody ground and center, entering an appropriate state of
consciousness with the following regimen or something similar. The
announcement may consist of something similar to these words:
A Circle of Magick is soon to be cast,
A place of wonder and might,
A place between worlds, the future and past,
Caught between darkness and light.
