Book III: W heel of the Year 209
Weave the dance of perfect love,
By the horn and by the dove—
Mystery of mystery!
As our will, so mote it be!
Weave the end of separation of spirit
Weave the dance of creation—
Weave laughter and joy,
Weave beauty and harmony
Weave love for each other and for our
Earth!
202. Hal-an-to [Traditional]
Ch: Hal-an-to, jolly rum-ba-lo,
We were up, long before the day-o!
To welcome in the Summer,
To welcome in the May-o.
For Summer is a-comin’ in,
And Winter’s gone away-o!
Take no scorn to wear the horn;
It was the crest when you were born!
Your father’s father wore it
And your father wore it too!
Robin Hood and Little John
Have both gone to the fair-o.
And we will to the merry green wood
To hunt the buck and hare-o!
Now blessed be our Circles,
And all our power and light-o.
And send us peace to all the world,
Send love by day and night-o!
203. Beltane Call to the God
Lord we invoke thee,
Lord, Secret of the Sun!
Thou who art the flame that burns in the
heart of every man,
And who contains the power of the fertile forest,
By rod & blade, hoof & horn, seed & stem
do we invoke thee!
Lord be present among us, Blessed Be!
—Katlyn Breene
204. Morris Song
Rabbits in Australia, rabbits in Australia,
We do it all day, we do it all night
Because it is a fertility rite!
—sung by English ritual Morris dancers
We celebrate the ecstasy of union.
MOON AND SUN JOIN AS ONE!
Ps 2: Let the maypole dance begin!
(Maypole dance and chant.)
Ps 2: Feel the ecstatic energy of creation,
Bathe in this sacred fire, bask in the
glow of Beltaine!
Blessed be the union of their love!
All repeat: Blessed be the union of their
love!
205. Beltane Call to the Goddess
Lady we invoke thee,
Evening star, soul of infinite space!
Let thy image be perfect Love.
Show us thy heart of radiant fire.
Dance the moon to fly with sun,
Dance the wind, hear harmony of heaven,
Dance the soul and we are one.
Dance the heart and the veil is lifted!
By moon and tide, earth and bud,
Flower and fruit, do we invoke thee!
Beloved be present among us, Blessed Be!
—Katlyn Breene
206. Bringing in the May 6
If you survive the night of madness,
If you survive its crazy spin,
Then you shall dance around the pole,
Take what’s tattered, make it whole,
And the pattern of the world you weave
before you will unfold.
Chorus (x4): Bringing in the May…
And now the quarters we must cross,
Between the equal end extreme,
We know the Morris dance is done,
So that all can feel the Sun,
As it penetrates our flesh and blood
and Spirit made as one.
A living circle cast in Love,
With friends and strangers as one voice,
A bond that’s stronger, far, than steel,
We project an ancient will,
Sending power all around the world:
Protect, Renew and Heal!
—Rick Hamouris, 1986
