110 Creating Circles & Ceremonies
135. T hree Faces of the Moon
By Melanie F. Stoehrer (Redwood Shadowtree)
(To be spoken by three priestesses in a “Drawing Down the Moon” ritual. Cut an apple
in half equatorially, and pass it around as these lines are being recited.)
Maiden’s Glory
I am Maiden, Call to me!
Sister, daughter, huntress!
I am the beauty of innocent youth.
I am freedom, power and poetry.
I am the Lady of untried potential.
I choose white to represent my power,
The white of the apple’s flesh,
It is the color of a cloud floating free and
unburdened through an endless sky,
It is the color of an artist’s canvas, or a
poet’s page,
A blank space,
Untapped
Unknown
A color of inspiration, a place of beginnings.
I am the light of all colors before they are
split by Nature.
Think of Me when the Moon is waxing,
And my bow is silver in the sky.
And know me always by the color white
The color of innocence and potential.
Mother’s Radiance
I am Mother to the Maiden,
And I will always heed your call.
I am the lover, the parent, and spouse.
I am the lush ripeness of maturity.
I am protection, commitment and fulfillment.
I am the Lady of motherhood.
To represent my power, I choose the color red.
I am the color of a ripened apple.
The color of blood that drops from the
wounds I heal,
That runs from the womb that brings forth life,
The color of the fluid which nourishes a child
Before it ever opens its eyes to the world.
The color of womanhood and perpetuation.
I am the rind that protects the flesh and seeds
of all I create.
Call to me when the Moon is full,
Pregnant in the sky.
Know me by the color red,
The color of maturity, protection and love.
Crone’s Reflections
I am the Grandmother Crone,
And your calls to me will echo in silence.
I am a friend, a wise-woman, a guardian of
the cauldron.
I am reflection, withdrawal and wisdom.
I am the culmination of life with death.
Black is the color of my power.
For black is the absorption of all colors,
And none may escape it.
It is the color of the seed that will be planted
again,
The color of the cold winter earth,
It is the color of decay and dissolution.
It is the color of endings and beginnings.
When the moon wanes in the darkening sky,
And the earth echoes with the stillness of the
night,
Know me by the blackness that awaits you
after your last breath is gone.
Joined as One
We are the three known as one.
We are the Fates, the Morrigan, the aspects
of the Triple Moon.
To be balanced and complete we are joined,
A triad, unbreakable and intertwined.
Know us not by any moon phase, but by all of
them together.
Know us by the apple we chose for our power.
The white flesh of crisp youth is the power of
the Maiden,
The red rind, the protection and blessing of
the Mother,
The Crone’s black seeds, deadly, and yet a
hope for the next life.
We choose to be joined always,
Watch for Us as the month rolls by,
In the faces of the moon.
And know that we are always One.
