Congratulations to Mrs Marie Louise van Wyk who has been invited to
Judge at the Al Khalediah 4 th International Arabian Horse Show In
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The show takes place on 26, 27 and 28 th of January
2011. Mrs van Wyk are really looking forward to this great event and said
she feels very privelaged to have been chosen.
Baie geluk aan Mev Marie Louise van Wyk wat uitgenooi is om as
Beoordelaar op te tree tydens die Al Khalediah se 4de Internasionale
Arabierperd Skou, wat plaasvind tydens 26, 27 en 28 Januarie 2011 in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mev van Wyk se dit is ʼn groot eer en sien vreeslik uit
na hierdie wonderlike geleentheid!

Ons wil ook graag Baie Dankie se aan die Arabier Telers wat bygedra
het tot Ounie Fourie se aftree-geskenkie. Ounie was vreeslik verras
en ook baie dankaar. Sy gaan almal baie mis!
We would like to thank all the Arab Horse Breeders who contributed
to the retirement gift that was given to Ounie Fourie. Ounie was
very touched and would like to thank all of you.
BANKREKENINGE
Ons ondervind ʼn groeiende probleem met telers wie hul gelde in die verkeerde
bankrekeninge deponeer – Genootskapgelde in SA Stamboek se rekening en vice
versa.
Dit veroorsaak groot vertragings met die allokasie van die gelde op rekeninge,
aangesien dit dan eers van die een rekening na die ander oorbetaal moet word om nie
eens die ekstra werk en bankkostes te noem nie.
We are experiencing a growing problem with Breeders paying money into the wrong
accounts. Monies payable to the Arab Horse Society into SA Studbook and vice versa.
This causes extra work and unnecessary bank costs.

PER CAPITA LIST / HEFFINGS LYSTE
Per Capita Lists was send out during the second week in November 2010.
If you did not receive your list, please contact the office urgently on 051- 4100 900 and
speak to either Marisa or Charmaine.
It is very important that the list must be sent back so that horses that have died, been
cancelled, sold etc, be removed from each Breeders list.
Die Heffings Lyste is reeds gedurende die tweede week in November 2010 uitgestuur.
Indien u nog nie u lys ontvang het nie, kontak dringend ons kantoor op 051 – 4100 900
en praat met Marisa of Charmaine.
Dit is baie belangrik dat hierdie lys moet teruggestuur word aan ons sodat
veranderinge soos kansellasies, sterftes, verkope ens op Telers se lys kan reggemaak
en of verwyder kan word.
Daar is nog steeds Stoetboeke beskikbaar om te koop teen R300-00 per stel.
Daar is 4 Volumes per stel.
We still have Studbooks for sale at R300-00 per set (4 Volumes per set).
We receive a lot of enquiries from Breeders as to where they can find names for their

queries regarding Horse Sickness (deaths) lately.

Advise all horse owners.
Please note that cases of AHS has been reported (several fatal) in Gauteng and Eastern Cape.
This information was supplied by the - African Horse Sickness Trust A few months early.
African Horse Sickness
With Quantec electronic therapy we can treat horses country wide.
We have a special program and after hours contact facilities for AHS
At the first sign of the sickness contact us immediately.
The horse can be on therapy within 2 to 3 hours.
Cost for the AHS therapy only is R 200 (1 week).
It is only payable if the horse pulls through.
The above is only applicable to AHS as the time lapse between the first sign and demise is very short
(maybe 12 hours) In some cases the time may be to short for the therapy to be effective. In these
cases there won’t be a charge.
It is advisable to request the standard program if you are not sure if the horse has AHS, The
analysis will confirm or deny your suspicion. Don’t guess about symptoms, as the following
illustrates
“The swelling above his eyes has reduced. Interestingly enough I had blood tests done for
African Horse Sickness as I was so stressed! And the results were negative for African Horse
Sickness and positive for Encephalitis. So your diagnosis was spot on.” Received from a

Die kantoor kry vreeslik baie navrae oor die nodige riglyne om ʼn Arabier Teler te wees,
en daarom het ek besluit om in hierdie nuusbrief te konsertreer op inligting wat baie
belangrik is. Ons ontvang regtig baie werk wat onvoltooid is en baie vertragings
meebring, terwyl ons reeds ʼn baie groot werkvrag het.
A warm welcome to all the new Arabian Horse Breeders that joined the Society during
2010.
Our office receive a lot of queries on a daily basis on how to complete birth
notifications correctly and what is needed etc.
I have therefore decided to concentrate on the correct procedures and important
information in this newsletter. We receive a lot of incomplete work which causes
unnecessary delays and increase the already heavy workload.

fooie vergesel is nie. Gelde kan voor die tyd inbetaal word, stuur dan net die
betalingsbewys saam met die werk aan ons, of faks of epos dit vir ons aandag indien
die werk reeds by ons is. Dit is regtig baie belangrik dat u aandag hieraan sal gee.
Please note that NO work will be done without the necessary fees. Monies can be paid
in beforehand as long as the payment confirmation accompany the work. If you have
already sent us the work, you can fax or email the payment confirmation to us. This is
extremely important and no exceptions will be made.
Met betrekking tot Oordragte mag slegs OORSPRONKLIKE SERTIFIKATE gebruik word. Indien
u die oorspronklike sertifikaat verloor het, moet daar aansoek gedoen word vir ʼn Duplikaat
Sertifikaat. Ons het ook n skriftelike bewys nodig dat die perd wel gekoop/verkoop is, met die
nuwe eienaar se naam, adres en die oordrag datum. Die kantoor ontvang groot hoeveelhede
“kleur afskrifte” van Sertifikate wat nie gebruik mag word nie.
Verkopers (huidige eienaars) moet asseblief die Sertifikate volledig voltooi aan die agterkant
wanneer perde verkoop word. Ons benodig die datum van oordrag, naam en adres van nuwe
eienaar. Die verkoper moet ook teken langs hierdie inligting, anders sal ons n brief moet
aanvra as bevestiging van verkoop.
Dit is ook belangrik dat die kopers en verkopers onderling ooreenkom wie vir die
Oordragskoste verantwoordelik gaan wees. As n algemene reel is dit die verkoper wat die
oordragkostes betaal, tensy anders ooreengekom. Daar word ongelooflik baie tyd gemors as
die Genootskap moet rondbel om te probeer uitvind wie die kostes gaan betaal!!

The only way whereby animals no more in your possession can be effectively removed from
you name, is by sending in the ORIGINAL CERTIFICATE with the relevant instructions. If you
are no longer in possession of the original Certificate, you will have to apply for a Duplicate
Certificate. Your request for a Duplicate and Transfer may be done at the same time, but only
with the written consent from the current Owner.
Breeders must please complete the Certificate with all the necessary details ie. Date of transfer,
name of buyer and their correct address. The Seller must sign next to this information as
confirmation to this transaction, otherwise we will request a letter stating that this specific
horse are being sold.
The general rule is that the current owner of the horse will pay for the transfer, but if otherwise
decided, the Breeders must please sort this issue out between themselves. The Society spends
an enormous amount of time phoning around to find out who will be responsible for the cost!!

DNA OF ARAB HORSES
Ons herinner u net weer daaraan dat alle suiwer Arabiere ge-DNS moet wees. Arabiere
kan by die volgende instansie ge-DNS word.
Please remember that all breeding Arabs must have DNA profile. Pure Bred Arabs can
be DNA tested at the following organisation.

KLEURE VAN DIE ARABIER PERDE – COLOURS OF ARABIAN HORSES
BLACK
The entire coat including the muzzle, flanks and legs must be
black with the exception of white markings. If any doubt arises
in determining between dark brown and black, the black can be
determined by noting the fine black hair on the muzzle.
Die hele haarbedekking, insluitende die muil, flank en bene moet swart wes, behalwe as daar wit merke op
is. As daar twyfel bestaan of n perd swart is of donkerbruin dan moet gelet word op die fyn haartjies op die
muil en as hulle swart is dan is die perd swart.
BROWN
The entire coat is brown with tan hair on the muzzle and/ or
flanks. The mane, tail and legs are always black unless there
are white markings present. Brown is sometimes difficult to tell
from black or dark bay but can be distinguished by noting the
fine tan or brown hairs on the muzzle or flanks. This color is
registered as bay.
Die hele haarbedekking is donkerbruin met taankleurige hare op die mule en, of op die flanke. Die
maanhare, stert en bene is altyd swart, behalwe as daar wit merke op is. Dis is somes moeilik om
donkerbruin van swart te onderskei maar dit moet gedoen word deur te let op die taankleurige fyn
haartjies op die muil en flanke.
BAY
The entire coat varies from light golden bay to mahogany.
Bay has a more reddish sheen than does chestnut. The
mane, tail and lower portion of the legs are balck unless
white markings are present. Distinquishing between
Brown and Bay is arbitrary and based on the degree of
darkness in the coat. There are many borderline cases
which might be classified either Brown or Bay. However,
all are registered as Bay.
Die hele haarbedekking wissel van n ligte goue bruin kleur tot n mahonie kleur. Bruin het n meer rooierige
skynsel as VOS. Die maanhare, stert en onderste dele van die bene is swart, behalwe as daar wit merke op
is. Om te besluit tussen DONKERBRUIN en BRUIN is n saak van willekeur en is gebaseer op hoe donker
die hare is. Daar kan baie grens gevalle wees maar albei word as BRUIN geregistreer.

LIGHT BAY
The body coat color may seem to resemble chestnut.
However, the color is definitely bay because the mane,
tail and points (legs) are black. This color is registered as
Bay.
Die kleur van die haarbedekking mag na VOS lyk maar dit is n ligbruin, die stert, maanhare en onderste dele
van die bene is swart, behalwe as daar wit merke op is. Die kleur word ook as BRUIN geregistreer.

CHESTNUT
The entire coat varies from a light red-yellow or golden
and copper to a deep, almost black, shade. The legs are
the same color as the body coat, except for white
markings. Mane and tail are usually the same color as the
body coat, although some are lighter with light hairs
intermixed with chestnut. Others have very dark hairs
intermingled and a few are seen with flaxen mane and tail.
Mane, tail and legs are never black.
Die gehele haarbedekking varieer van n ligte rooi-geel tot goud of koper tot n swartagtige skakering. Die
bene, behalwe vir wit merke, het dieselfde kleur as die liggaam, maanhare en stert het gewoonlik ook
dieselfde kleur as die liggaam, maar ligter maanhare en stert. Maanhare, stert en bene is nooit swart nie.
LIGHT CHESTNUT
Light chestnuts often have a very light or flaxen mane and tail
as illustrated above. However, on most, the mane, tail, leg and
body color are close to the same. The color is registerd as
chestnut.
Ligte vosse het baie keer geel of vlaskleurige maanhare en stert. In meeste gevalle egter is die maanhare,
stert, bene en haarbedekking dieselfde kleur. Die perde word as VOS geregistreer.
DARK CHESTNUT
The very dark chestnut – so called liver or black chestnut.
The dark chestnut can be distingquished from a black or
brown by the bronze or copper highlites on the legs as
distinguised from the bluish highlites on the black legs of
the black or brown horse. This color is gregistered as
chestnut.

Dit is donker VOS en het soms slegs ʼn swart skynsel. Sweetvosse kan van donkerbruin en swart perde
onderskei word deur die brons of koper skynsel aan hulle vos kleurige bene, terwyl die donkerbruin en swart
perde n blouerige skynsel op hulle swart bene het.
DARK GREY
The grey is best visualized as a white horse with a varying
mixture of dark – usually black, although some times bay
or chestnut hair in the coat. In the young horse, the dark
hair predominates, especially on the legs and usually the
mane and tail. Some are dappled as shown above. Others
are dark or steel grey without dappling. In the steel grey,
only black and white hair is found in the coat. All greys
become light in color each year, passing from dark grey through the dappled stages to white or nearly white,
including legs, mane and tail. Many then develop numerous tiny tufts of brown hair in the body coat
resulting in the flea-bitten grey.
Die haarbedekking van die BLOU perd is in groter of mindere mate n mengsel van swart en wit hare,
alhoewel daar soms bruin of vos hare ook teenwoordig kan wees. By die jong perd domineer die donker
hare gewoonlik, veral die beenhare, maanhare en stert. Sommige BLOU perde ontwikkel appels
(Appelblou)en ander is donker grys (Steel Grey) sonder appels, sulke perde het net swart en wit hare
gemeng. Alle BLOU perde word elke jaar ligter van kleur, van donker grys na appelblou na wit of so te sê
wit, insluitende bene, maanhare en stert. Baie wit perde ontwikkel dan klein kolletjies bruin hare en ons
noem hulle Gespikkelde Wit bene (Flee bitten Grey).
ROSE GREY
In some Greys, the dark mixture of hair in the body coat is
chestnut or bay in color rather than black. These are sometimes
referred to as “Rose Grey”. These, like all other Greys, become
lighter in color each year until eventually white. Such horses are
registerd as Grey.
Die haarbedekking bestaan hier uit n mengsel van Wit en Vos of Bruin hare. Die perde soos alle ander Blou
perd word ook Wit.
WHITE
White will not usually be a recorded color in the Arabian Horse
Registry as normally all such Arabian horses are dark in color at
birth and pass through the various stages of grey before
becoming white. Consequently, most are registered as Grey.
The skin of the grey, also white Arabian, is always dark, except
where there are white markings.
Dit is nie n kleur wat gebruik word om n vul te rapporteer nie, gevolglik is alle WIT perde oorspronklik as
BLOU geregistreer. Wit Arabierperde se vel is altyd donker, behalwe waar daar wit merke teenwoordig is.
Sodra n Wit perd nat gemaak word sal al die wit merke soos n bles of sokkies, duidelik sigbaar wees.
