serious-looking contender to the unbeatable Sue’s Indian
Raja has over a relatively short period of time opted for the
tedious Lithuanian habit of going downhill fast. You tend
to get what you pay for in life, which in the case of Indian
Maharaja is at best average Indian food that panders more
and more to local tastes. Although the food is by no means
bad, proper Indian food needs to be, well, proper, and this

here, but to anyone with a sense of what an outstanding
restaurant is all about, Sue’s Indian Raja is simply the best
place to eat in Vilnius and is consequently worth every penny.
Overseen with discreet showman flair by living legend Wing
Commander Rajinder Chaudhary, the exemplary dishes are
all made with hand-mixed spices for the absolute best in
authenticity. The staff are on hand to advise, the spiciness
of a dish can be raised or lowered on demand and the view of
the Cathedral is the absolute icing on the cake. The perfect
cure for just about any ailment, go for a selection of bhajis
and pakoras to start with and follow it up with the ultimate

18 specialises primarily in dishes from the world of European
seasonal cuisine including French onion soup, risotto, pasta and
scores of meat-heavy dishes such as beef and rabbit. There’s
pudding too, and the aforementioned wine shop stocks a huge
selection of booze. There’s little sympathy for vegetarians here,
but if you’re into classy dining on one of Vilnius’ poshest streets

should be sporting new furniture, freshly painted walls and
a highly recommended photography exhibition on the walls,
although this shouldn’t prevent people from visiting before
the makeover. This Dutch-owned masterpiece is one of the
jewels in the crown of the Lithuanian capital, providing solace
for a wide range of creative and media types who keep coming
back because it’s friendly, the food’s very good and the bar is

distinctly feminine feel to the place, this is eating in a hurry
at its best. The selection of ready-to-eat food may not be
the largest in town, but the dishes are imaginative, taste
superb and are, considering the location, excellent value
for money. Just make sure you’ve got some cash on you,
