wHAT wIll I sTuDy?
This comprehensive two year diploma incorporates courses from the
Cisco Networking Academy Programme, as well as courses from the
Diploma in ICT and the NZ Diploma in Engineering (Electrical). You
will learn Internet technology skills for installing, designing, building
and maintaining complex routed WAN, switched LAN networks. You
will also gain basic skills in Linux, IT Essentials, and Voice and Data
Cabling.
The Diploma in Computer Networking enables you to apply what
you learn in class while working on actual networks and latest
technology. From building a website to basic networking skills to
advanced VLAN troubleshooting, you’ll learn on the actual equipment
you’ll be working on when you start your career in industry.
wHERE wIll IT TAkE mE?
As a graduate of the Diploma in Computer Networking you will
be equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to start your
career as either an infrastructure technician or as a network server
administrator within the Information Technology (IT) industry.
This programme leads to international industry certifications such as
CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA A+/Net+/Server+, Linux+, or MCITP.

Academic
• 12 credits in NCEA English Level 1, 12 credits in NCEA Mathematics
(or Pängarau) Level 1 and 36 credits NCEA Level 2.

Alternative
• Computer Technician’s Certificate — This certificate will enable
you to launch your career in the computing networking industry in
a systems technical support and maintenance role, working with
a range of software applications, computing operating systems
and network configurations. Further study is also an option
after completing this qualification. The Computer Technician’s
Certificate provides a seamless pathway (with partial credit) into
the Diploma in Computer Networking Level 6 and Diploma in ICT
Level 6.

Alternative
• Evidence of literacy, numeracy and an ability to study at the
appropriate level. This can be through study, work and/or life
experience. CPIT literacy assessments are available.
English language Requirements
If English is not your first language you are also required to provide
evidence of your English language skills as listed below. Refer also to
the Acceptable Alternatives Chart which includes credits in Englishrich
subjects from New Zealand educational institutions. If you have
no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand
citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.
• IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 6.0 reading, writing and
listening subtests).
