wHAT wIll I sTuDy?<br />
This comprehensive two year diploma <strong>in</strong>corporates courses from the<br />
Cisco Network<strong>in</strong>g Academy Programme, as well as courses from the<br />
<strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> ICT and the NZ <strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g (Electrical). You<br />
will learn Internet technology skills for <strong>in</strong>stall<strong>in</strong>g, design<strong>in</strong>g, build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g complex routed WAN, switched LAN networks. You<br />
will also ga<strong>in</strong> basic skills <strong>in</strong> L<strong>in</strong>ux, IT Essentials, and Voice and Data<br />
Cabl<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
The <strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Computer</strong> Network<strong>in</strong>g enables you to apply what<br />
you learn <strong>in</strong> class while work<strong>in</strong>g on actual networks and latest<br />
technology. From build<strong>in</strong>g a website to basic network<strong>in</strong>g skills to<br />
advanced VLAN troubleshoot<strong>in</strong>g, you’ll learn on the actual equipment<br />

wHERE wIll IT TAkE mE?<br />
As a graduate of the <strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Computer</strong> Network<strong>in</strong>g you will<br />
be equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to start your<br />
career as either an <strong>in</strong>frastructure technician or as a network server<br />
adm<strong>in</strong>istrator with<strong>in</strong> the Information Technology (IT) <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />
This programme leads to <strong>in</strong>ternational <strong>in</strong>dustry certifications such as<br />
CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA A+/Net+/Server+, L<strong>in</strong>ux+, or MCITP.<br />

• 12 credits <strong>in</strong> NCEA English Level 1, 12 credits <strong>in</strong> NCEA Mathematics<br />
(or Pängarau) Level 1 and 36 credits NCEA Level 2.<br />

• <strong>Computer</strong> Technician’s Certificate — This certificate will enable<br />
you to launch your career <strong>in</strong> the comput<strong>in</strong>g network<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry <strong>in</strong><br />
a systems technical support and ma<strong>in</strong>tenance role, work<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
a range of software applications, comput<strong>in</strong>g operat<strong>in</strong>g systems<br />
and network configurations. Further study is also an option<br />
after complet<strong>in</strong>g this qualification. The <strong>Computer</strong> Technician’s<br />
Certificate provides a seamless pathway (with partial credit) <strong>in</strong>to<br />
the <strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Computer</strong> Network<strong>in</strong>g Level 6 and <strong>Diploma</strong> <strong>in</strong> ICT<br />
Level 6.<br />

• Evidence of literacy, numeracy and an ability to study at the<br />
appropriate level. This can be through study, work and/or life<br />
experience. <strong>CPIT</strong> literacy assessments are available.<br />
English language Requirements<br />
If English is not your first language you are also required to provide<br />
evidence of your English language skills as listed below. Refer also to<br />
the Acceptable Alternatives Chart which <strong>in</strong>cludes credits <strong>in</strong> Englishrich<br />
subjects from New Zealand educational <strong>in</strong>stitutions. If you have<br />
no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand<br />
citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.<br />
