Legionella Control
Legionella pneumophila, the bacteria
that causes Legionnaires’ disease, occurs
naturally within water and can become a
serious risk to health and in some cases
even prove fatal.
It is for this reason that the HSE’s
Approved Code of Practice L8 ‘the control
of Legionella bacteria in water systems’
provides specifi c guidance on the best
way to reduce the risk to building
occupants – a message that is reinforced in
the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Water Management Systems
Rentokil Specialist Hygiene provides a
complete water management system and
service that meets all of the requirements
of The Health and Safety at Work Act of
1974, the revised HSE Approved Code of
Practice (ACoP L8) and the Water Supply
Regulations of 1999. As such, our Watersafe
system is eff ective and professional and
designed to provide you with complete
peace of mind.
1. Risk Assessment
The HSE’s ACoP L8 states that every
building should undertake a suitable
and suffi cient risk assessment. In
buildings occupied by fi ve or more
people the results should be formally
recorded. This document should be
reviewed or updated regularly or a
minimum of every two years. Stored
water, drinking water, process water,
closed systems and cooling towers are
all covered by ACoP water quality
regulations. Therefore, to safely manage
your water quality it is vital that these
water systems are properly assessed for
their water quality risk. Rentokil Hygiene’s
water quality risk assessment consultants
will provide a comprehensive assessment
of your water systems. The assessment will
enable you to choose the correct course
of action for ensuring your water quality
standards meet all ACoP regulations.
2. Remedial Works
Once the risk assessment has been
completed, our trained water quality
experts will also off er a comprehensive
range of remedial services and water safety
solutions, which include tank lining, tank
replacement, system disinfections and all
necessary plumbing alterations for your

3. Ongoing Monitoring
An integral part of the ACoP’s
requirements is the need to undertake
regular monitoring and checks on the
systems to ensure that they are operating
within the guideline parameters.
