to Charlestown and snagged a rockbreaking<br />

<strong>Town</strong>ie.<br />

CLAIRE<br />

<strong>The</strong>y just think it’s a rebound.<br />

Rebound from what? <strong>The</strong> robbery?<br />

Anyway, I feel estranged from them<br />

now. <strong>The</strong>y still have this,<br />

carelessness -- which I envy but<br />

at the same time I hardly<br />

understand anymore. It feels like<br />

I’m leaving them behind.<br />

DOUG<br />

I know what you mean.<br />

CLAIRE<br />

My brother died on a day like<br />

this. I was holding his hand.<br />

<strong>The</strong> sun is bright through the shop.<br />

CLAIRE<br />

<strong>The</strong> room smelled like bedpans and<br />

plastic flowers. <strong>The</strong> sun was<br />

bright through the windows. Now<br />

on really sunny days I think about<br />

someone dying. That’s wrong,<br />

isn’t it?<br />

DOUG<br />

I’m sure he’d be glad you’re<br />

thinking of him.<br />

She smiles, the mood is melancholy but they are no less<br />

connected to one another.<br />

DOUG<br />

I’m having a good time. This is a<br />

good day.<br />

She sets her napkin on the table, pushing back her chair.<br />
