MORE ABOUT SENWES AS AGRI-BUSINESS
Senwes is a BEE empowered agri-business with a 101-year
heritage. Starting out as a co-operative in 1909, it was converted
to a public company in 1997 – which has grown over
the years to play a leading role in agriculture. It operates
extensively in the grain industry through its widespread silo
infrastructure and grain marketing network. An input supplies
network is also operated and the company provides financing
to both producers and grain buyers to facilitate the business.
Senwes Grainlink’s well-placed silo infrastructure offers a total
capacity of 25% of all fixed commercial storage capacity
in South Africa. Approximately 30% of the country’s grain is
handled and/or stored through this network of silos. Senwes has
gained the reputation as a dependable supplier of clean, safe
and healthy agricultural commodities with integrity and quality.
The Senwes Village division provides inputs to producers through
retail stores as well as on a direct basis from manufacturers and
suppliers regarding bulk products. Its mechanisation business
operates an extensive John Deere agency supplying tractors,
combines and other implements with workshops and spares in
support.
Senwes concluded a BEE deal with the Bafokeng Consortium
in 2006 who currently holds an equity stake of 34,7%. Senwes
obtained a level six BBBEE contributor rating. S
