Per Adolf left for Kumla in 1885 to
work at a shoe factory. He did not
like this job. He moved to Stockholm
to join the army as he found no other
job. There he trained as an instructor
in gymnastics, riding, and fencing
and a position at Waxholm fortress.
The name of the last
hussar in Närke was
Jan Erik Helling. He was
well known in the county.
It was from him that Per
Adolf took his new family
name. His parents did not
know about this.
