<strong>Stoff</strong> fortsätter sitt samarbete med den häftigaste ungdomsfestivalen<br />
i norra Europa, Ung08, som hjälper oss att visa upp Young <strong>Stoff</strong> redan<br />
veckan innan själva festivalen drar i gång. I år kommer vi att hålla<br />
utkik efter unga talanger som är sugna på att visa upp sitt skapande<br />

northern Europe, Ung08, who are helping us showcase our<br />
Young <strong>Stoff</strong> before the main event itself. This year we will also<br />
be looking out for young talent wanting to show their creative<br />

Vad är en fringefestival?<br />
Den första fringefestivalen ägde rum i Edinburgh 1947 i samband<br />
med en internationell teaterfestival som syftade till att skapa<br />
förbrödring i Europa. En del av teatergrupperna som ville vara med<br />
fick inte plats så de skapade i stället en egen scen i festivalens utkant.<br />
Ordet “fringe” är engelska för just utkant. I dag omsätter Edinburgh<br />
Fringe Festival över en miljard kronor. Som en årlig mötesplats för<br />
scenkonstnärer och kulturutbyte har den fått 176 uppföljare runtom i<br />
världen. Fringefestivaler ger oetablerade artister en plattform för att<br />
utveckla sitt konstnärliga arbete och visa upp sina verk för en bred<br />
publik. Artisten får en scen och publiken en upplevelse.<br />

What is a fringe festival?<br />
The Fringe story dates back to Scotland in 1947, when eight theatre<br />
groups turned up uninvited to perform at the (then newly formed)<br />
Edinburgh International Festival, an initiative created to celebrate<br />
and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second World<br />
War. Not being part of the official <strong>programme</strong> of the International<br />
festival didn’t stop these performers – they just went ahead and<br />
staged their shows anyway, around the ‘fringe’ of the main event.<br />
Today the Edinburgh Festival Fringe contributes £142 million to the<br />
City’s economy each year and there are now 176 other fringe festivals<br />
throughout the world’ They provide an annual meeting place for<br />
cultural exchanges and give un-established artists a platform to<br />
develop their work and showcase their talent to a broad audience.<br />
