E SACRIFICE OF THE MASS

THE CREED.
together with the Father and the Son, were added
against the Macedonians who denied the Divinity of
the Holy Ghost. The famous addition of the Filioque,
who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, was
introduced later by particular churches. About 1015
Rome itself adopted it. This brings the Creed to the
shape we now have it at Mass.
The Credo was generally sung in the Roman Mass at
the beginning of the eleventh century. In the Eastern
Church the Credo was introduced at the beginning of
the sixth.
Credo in unum Deum,
Patrem omnipotentem, factorem
coeli et terrae visibilium
omnium, et invisibilium.
Et in unum Dominum Jesum
Christum, Filium Dei unigenitum,
et ex Patre natum
ante omnia saecula. Deum
