EXPLANATION <strong>OF</strong> <strong>THE</strong> PRAYER.<br />
After praying for the dead who are resting in Christ,<br />
the Church prays for the living whose future is un<br />
certain and exposed to danger.<br />
And to us also sinners (the priest slightly raises bis<br />
voice) hoping in the multitude of Thy mercies,vouchsafe<br />
to grant some part and fellowship with Thy<br />
holy Apostles and Martyrs, with John (St. John the<br />
Baptist), Stephen (the first martyr), Matthias (elected<br />
to fill the place of Judas), Barnabas (companion and<br />
fellow-labourer with St. Paul), Ignatius (the martyr,<br />
successor to Peter in the see of Antioch), Alexander<br />
