INTRODUCTION TO <strong>THE</strong> CONSECRATION.<br />
Qui pridie quam pateretur, Who the day before He<br />
accepit. panem in sanctas ac suffered, (he takes the Host)<br />
venerabiles inarms suas : et took bread into His holy and<br />
elevatis oculis in coelum ad te venerable hands (he raises his<br />
Deum Patrem suum omnipo- eyes to heaven), and with His<br />
tentem,tibigratiasagens,bene- eyes lifted up towards heaven,<br />
4- dixit, fregit, deditque disci- to Thee, God, His Almighty<br />
pulis suis, dicens : Accipite, Father, giving thanks to Thee,<br />
et manducate ex hoc omnes. did bless, ^ break, and give<br />
Hoc EST ENIM CORPUS to His disciples, saying : Take<br />
MEUM. and eat ye all of this ;<br />
FOR THIS is MY BODY.<br />
EXPLANATION <strong>OF</strong> <strong>THE</strong> INTRODUCTION TO <strong>THE</strong><br />
CONSECRATION <strong>OF</strong> BREAD.<br />
Who the day before He suffered (the Priest<br />
takes the Host) took bread into His holy and<br />
venerable hands (he raises his eyes to heaven)<br />
and with His eyes lifted up towards heaven, to<br />
Thee, God, His Almighty Father, giving thanks<br />
to Thee, did bless, ^ break, and give to His<br />
disciples, saying.<br />
The words: into His holy and venerable hands<br />
and with His eyes lifted up towards heaven, to<br />
Thee, God, His Almighty Father, are not found<br />
in the Scriptural Narrative: Matthew xxvi. 26 28:<br />
Mark xiv. 22 24 : Luke xxii. 19, 20 and i Cor. xi.<br />
23 26, but come to us through the tradition of the<br />
Church.
