7.C FORM AND DATE OF MOST RECENT<br />
RECORDS OR INVENTORY OF PROPERTY<br />
The <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Opera</strong> <strong>House</strong>’s collection <strong>of</strong> information<br />
and records about its history (<strong>the</strong> Dennis Wolanski<br />
Library) was closed in 1996 and most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> collection<br />
was dispersed. The main recipients were <strong>the</strong> State<br />
Library <strong>of</strong> New South Wales, <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> New<br />
South Wales and <strong>the</strong> Victorian Arts Centre Performing<br />
Arts Museum. A small collection was retained on<br />
site <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Opera</strong> <strong>House</strong> Trust and is known<br />
as <strong>the</strong> Dennis Wolanski Archives. It includes several<br />
historic models <strong>by</strong> Jørn Utzon and a collection <strong>of</strong><br />
books, articles and artefacts.<br />
‘The Utzon Collection’ held <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mitchell Library at<br />
<strong>the</strong> New South Wales State Library is a major collection<br />
<strong>of</strong> Jørn Utzon’s <strong>of</strong>fi ce fi les, plans, working models and<br />
sketches generated before 1966.<br />
New South Wales State Records holds <strong>the</strong> records<br />
<strong>of</strong> New South Wales Public Works which was <strong>the</strong><br />
government agency responsible for overseeing <strong>the</strong><br />
erection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Opera</strong> <strong>House</strong>. The archive<br />
includes <strong>the</strong> group <strong>of</strong> 12 drawings <strong>by</strong> Jørn Utzon that<br />
won <strong>the</strong> 1956 architectural competition for a ‘National<br />
<strong>Opera</strong> <strong>House</strong>’, records from <strong>the</strong> Hornibrook Group<br />
and Hall Todd & Littlemore, photographs, minutes <strong>of</strong><br />
meetings, speeches, press releases, parliamentary<br />
papers and news clippings.<br />
