WELCOME TO A new edition of our newspaper! For
those of you who still haven’t heard, I am taking this
opportunity to inform you that IV Produkt is now
privately owned by IV Produkt Holding AB where the
Sjöberg family is the principal owner.
IV Produkt has been owned by the Skanska
Group since 98 . In conjunction with Skanska’s
move to sell off subsidiaries whose operations are not
closely related with their core business, IV Produkt
Holding AB seized the opportunity to take over
IV Produkt. As far as our clients, subcontractors and
partners are concerned, this change in ownership will
not bring about any major changes.
In the past, we have been very independent, even
within the framework of the Skanska organisation. As
an independent company, we will continue to invest
resources in the research and development of our
products and in maintaining our role as forerunners
when it comes to quality and engineering.
FURTHER AHEAD IN this newspaper, you can read
about how we have further developed the Envistar
series that has scored such a great success on the
market. We are continuously developing our other air
handling units and ventilation equipment in a similar
way. Examples of this are the air handling units that,
already from the factory, have provision for integrated
cooling, heating and control equipment. Our corporate
mission embodies a sound, environmentally aware
and energy-conserving approach. This is something
we are going to continue to uphold as we develop
new products. We are finding new roads not only
within our product mix. We are also carrying out R&D
aimed at reaching new markets. Our marketing
campaign in England is our latest move which we also
tell more about further on in this newspaper.

Envistar R&D
Generates
more models
The Envistar series was introduced for the first time
in 1997 and immediately became a bestseller. It was
modified in 2001 to fit in with new prerequisites on
the market and in 2004 the series was expanded
with the Envistar Top model.
Now two more models have been added to the
Envistar series – the Compact and the Flex.
The concept has become very popular. Features
that characterize the Envistar series are
its integrated control function, speedcontrolled
direct­driven fans, high­efficiency
heat exchanger and provision for integrating
the completely new cooling unit – StarCooler.
The Envistar is a package solution that meets
client demands for low installation costs and
lower operating costs.
IV Produkt’s Engineering Manager Bengt
Svensson together with District Manager
Mattias Sjöberg, who has been the market’s
representative, has drawn up the guidelines
for the new Envistar generation influenced by
performance and design suggestions from
IV Produkt’s sales organisation and other
colleagues.
“The new generation of Envistar units is
even better when it comes to versatility, LCC,
control functions, communication with
supervisory systems and cooling. All these
qualities put together characterize a highly
cost­effective product,” Bengt Svensson said.
More possible connections
The Envistar Top is available in three sizes
and can be supplied with integrated cooling
unit. What really characterizes the Envistar
Top is that only two square metres of floor
space is needed for installing the unit.
“The Envistar Compact is available in
four sizes, is erected on the same platform as
the Envistar Top and has practically the same
airflow ranges,” Bengt Svensson said.
The greatest difference between the Top
and the Compact models is that the Compact
can be connected to ductwork from the end
connections or the two connections upward
to simplify installation in attics and above

The name implies that it is flexible and

The Flex model provides scope for choosing
between a rotary and a plate heat exchanger
for recovering heat or cooling energy. The
StarCooler cooling unit is available in two
versions: with or without cooling energy recovery.
The air handling units can be supplemented
with an air recirculation section for
heating the building at night.
Complete air handling unit
An important characteristic of the Envistar
series is the integrated control equipment
that is of Siemens Saphir manufacture. The
new version of the Saphir has more functions.
It is better at communicating with the
Internet and superior systems, for example.
The demand for communication is ever increasing
which is why the new Siemens
Saphir MODbus features this as standard. To
enable communication with several systems,
the unit can be supplemented a number of
communication circuit cards for Webb,
BACnet, Lon, KNX, OPC, SMS and the like.
“The series makes it possible to choose
models that are well suited to satisfy every
need and desire. IV Produkt offers a complete
air handling unit from one and the same
subcontractor with all the benefits that this

StarCooler expands
its Range of Application
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF the StarCooler
cooling units means that it can be used with the
Flexomix and the entire Envistar series.
Lately we have devoted considerable effort
toward developing our cooling products and this
has resulted in more sizes, greater cooling
capacity, less refrigerant volume and a broader
range of application.
“We have, among other features, developed
our integrated rotary heat exchangers for the
StarCooler, which now offer even greater
possibility for recovering cooling energy. This
offers both maximal cooling capacity and the
energy recovered is utilized to a maximal
degree,” Birger Karlsson, who is the Product
Manager for IV Produkt’s cooling units, explains.

For a long time there has been a market
demand for cooling units with variable airflow.
This is a feature that our new StarCooler can
now provide. The new design makes it possible
to decrease the maximal permissible airflow to
roughly 0 percent in the standard units.
“We master the technology and customise
the capacity to meet the needs of the
application.
The new models also provide more cooling
capacity in all the sizes with maintained high
sensible cooling which minimizes condensate
runoff. In addition to a number of engineering
advances, the StarCooler can also be supplied
in a split version. This makes it easier to
transport the units at the site - even through
narrow passageways that previously were
impassable obstacles.”
”We have improved our cooling units in
every way,” Birger Karlsson points out.
This Flexomix S was delivered to the Irish
Civil Defence Headquarters in Roscrea.
Positive Reception
on the UK Market
From the start, Dave Shakeshaft was sceptical to the
idea of becoming IV Produkt’s sales representative
in England, considering the fierce competition on the
UK market. However, after his visit at IV Produkt’s
plant in Växjö, he changed his opinion.
“I was incredibly impressed by both
the high quality of the products and
the professional manner in which
I was received by the employees,”
he told.

IV Produkt and Dave Shakeshaft
and his company, Skanair Technologies
Ltd, began their cooperation immediately
after the New Year, in 2005. We hope to
gradually be able to capture a share of the
market in England.
“There are at present 50 producers of
HVAC units similar to IV Produkt’s in the
UK and the competition is tough. However I
think that there are great possibilities and am
surprised by the positive response that we’ve
encountered so far,” Dave Shakeshaft said.
The reason for this, he believes, is in part
unique product series such as StarCooler and
Envistar in combination with high quality
and the right prices. Furthermore, the professionalism
that is ingrained in all aspects of

“Despite the short time that we’ve been in
the UK market, we have received several
orders and many more projects are under
way.

for the Irish Civil Defence headquarters

“This was an order we landed in
competition with several other subcontractors.
The air handling units
are installed and we have received
terrific response,” Dave Shakeshaft
told.
More employees
Skanair Technologies Ltd has its office in
Birmingham where Dave together with his
family i.e. his wife and three children also
live. During the last twelve years he has
worked as a salesman of ventilation equipment,
and has been a partner in a trading
company. However, now he is focusing on
IV Produkt.
“Considering the interest that has been
shown in England, we may need to hire more
employees to reach out to further market
targets,” he said.

Kungsmadsskolan’s Requirements
To be spared having to install extensive runs of
ductwork and a space-consuming fan room, the
Envistar Top was the obvious choice when new
ventilation equipment was to be installed in the
gymnastics building at the Kungsmads School in
Växjö.
“We considered the Envistar Top already at
the outset of planning the project,” said Mats
Andersson from Växjö Fastighetsförvaltning
AB (property management).
Once it was established that the existing
ventilation equipment could no longer meet
requirements for healthy ventilation in the
gymnastics building and also lacked an
energy­saving heat recovery unit, VÖFAB
sent out an invitation to tender, for replacing
the entire ventilation system.
With IV Produkt’s air handling units in its
product mix, the contractor, Service &
Klimat, who engage IV Produkt as our supplier
submitted the most cost­effective tender.
Mats Andersson from Växjö Fastighetsförvaltning AB, Joakim Sjösten from Service & Klimat and
Jimmy Carlsson from IV Produkt state that the new ventilation equipment at Kungsmadsskolan
work very well.
“This involved a detail­specified general
contract and thanks to the Envistar Top, our
requirements could be met,” Mats Andersson
pointed out.
Minimal system ducting
A total of seven Envistar Top air handling
units and a completely new system of ducting
was supplied and installed through Service &
Klimat. Five of the air handling units were
also equipped with Siemens Saphir integrated
control equipment for communication with a
supervisory control system control system
and the Siemens Desigo Insight.
“The new system of ducting became minimal
because we were able to position the seven
ventilation units at strategic locations in
the building. The five new fan rooms that
were built did not become so space­demanding
thanks to the compact design of the Envistar
Top,” Joakim Sjösten, Project Leader
at Service & Klimat, explained.
Better airflow
The new ventilation units were commissioned
and put in service at the start of the autumn
school term and Mats Andersson is
very satisfied with the entire delivery.
“The tests show that we now have much
better airflows in the building. We also save
energy – the ventilation unit fans run at low
speed while the ventilated spaces are unoccupied,”
he said.

Requirements for
Paper Mill Ventilation
FINNISH TM SYSTEMS specializes in air
management systems for the pulp and paper
industry. Three Flexomix air handling units from
IV Produkt and other equipment were recently
installed at the Gruvön Paper Mill at Grums in
Central Sweden.
“In this case, we changed the existing
ventilation system in the machine room at the
paper mill. The task of the system is to keep the
temperature low and at the same time extract
humid air,” explained Hans Torlén, Marketing
Manager at TM Systems.
Among other requirements, the exterior walls
at the plant had to be free of moisture. Large,
high-capacity ventilation units were required to
achieve this end. For various reasons, the
ventilation units had to be secured to a
foundation on the ground.
”We looked at various products that seemed
appropriate to do the job, requested and
received quotations,” Hans Torlén told.
The ultimate choice was the Flexomix 0,
which was supplied by IV Produkt’s Finnish
dealer Inter Vent OY.
“We are well acquainted with the engineering
features in IV Produkt’s air handling units since
previous encounters, and know that they can
meet the stringent demands this installation
involves. Moreover the prices quoted by Inter
Vent OY were reasonable and we appreciated
the friendly atmosphere in which we did
business,” Hans Torlén said.

A Flexomix air handling unit weighing more than
1.600 kg was recently delivered to a fan room on
the roof of a high office building in central
Stockholm – by helicopter!
“This was both faster and handier than using
an ordinary crane. It was also cheaper,” Richard
Björk, Project Leader at IV Produkt’s contractor
Ventilator in Stockholm, explained.
Two trips
The air handling unit was supplied with an aim
to increase the ventilation capacity in the office
building on Birger Jarlsgatan (street) that is
managed by Aberdeen Property Investors AB.
The problem was that the fan room is situated
far in on the roof of the high building.
“This meant that we would have had to
use a huge crane to be able to manage the lift.
This, in turn, would have made it necessary
to close off traffic on the street for many
hours,” Richard Björk said.
The solution was instead to use a helicopter
for lifting the Flexomix unit to its final
location. The ventilation unit conforming to

a design proposal by TQI Konsult, was supplied
in six sections to a park opposite the
office building located in the Spårvagn (Tram)
district. From there, the helicopter made two
trips to lift the ventilation unit sections up to
the site.
“The first lift took only five or six minutes.
After that, we took a short break. Then we
closed off all traffic for another ten minutes
while the remaining sections were lifted. It all
worked perfectly,” Richard Björk told us.
Spectacular delivery
It is not very common that a helicopter is
used for delivering a ventilation unit. However
in certain cases, this is necessary in order
to solve an apparently impossible mission.
This time, the spectacular delivery was to
advantage for all the parties involved.
“On the one hand, it turned out to be
appreciably much cheaper to use a helicopter,
on the other, the job was done faster and we
were able to position the ventilation unit just
where we wanted it to be,” Nicklas Brömster,
IV Produkt’s District Manager, pointed out.

Estimates showed that the investment in new air
handling equipment for the Sundsta Public Baths
would mean appreciable energy savings. But thanks
to IV Produkt’s Flexopool unit, the real savings
exceeded expectations.
“The results turned out much better than we
had ever expected. We figured that heat recovery
alone would save us about 30 percent
with the new equipment. But it soon became
apparent that the real savings would amount to
as much as 37 percent,” Magnus Henriksson,
who is the Manager of the Engineering
Development Group at Karlstad City Hall,
reported.
Energy review
Sundsta Public Baths and Sports Centre is
Karlstad’s largest sports facility, which,

buildings. The facility was built in the beginning
of the 1970s. After an energy review
carried out a few years ago, the review
committee concluded that the time was right
for replacing the ventilation equipment and
other fixtures to reduce the energy costs.
“The efficiency of the heat recovery components,
among other items of equipment,
was low. The entire reconstruction project
would involve a large investment and it was
decided that we would begin by replacing the
ventilation equipment in the public baths
facility complete with the areas where bathers
change clothes and shower,” Magnus
Henriksson explained.
Really put to the test
Flexopool, which is especially designed for
dehumidifying, ventilating, recovering energy
and heating air in public baths, offered the
best solution for the Sundsta Public Baths
and Sports Centre both technically and in
terms of minimal space required.
“We chose between two alternatives. But
the Flexopool from IV Produkt suited us best.
Especially considering the fact that we had
only limited space for installation. In 2003 we
closed the public baths facility for six weeks to
replace the air handling equipment. This effort
really put the contractor, Energi & Fastigheter
i Karlstad AB, to the test.”

“We were to dismantle the old equipment
and install the new. There were many who
didn’t think that we would get the job done
on time,” Project Leader Henrik Hjälmerhag
remembers.
Exceeded expectations
But the installation was ready on time and
the results exceeded all our expectations. In
the autumn of 2005, the air handling system
was guarantee inspected and Magnus Henriksson
is very pleased with the change of air
handling equipment in every aspect.
”We had one commissioning period that
involved certain adjustments and since then
the system has performed extremely well,”
he said.
But the most positive aspect is however
the energy that the Flexopool and the
Flexomix air handling unit together with the
heat pump have saved. The 37 percent in
saved energy has saved us roughly 1 million
Swedish kronor per year. The costs for the
entire installation were 4.5 million including
the control, electrical, pipework, construction,
and project design costs which involve a
pay­off period of about 4.5 years.

Extensive Deliveries to Prague’s Underground
The first contacts were made ten years ago. To date,
Vratislav Vrsovsky has delivered almost 120
ventilation units from IV Produkt to the continuously
expanding underground railway network in Prague.
“I got the opportunity to introduce our products,
the prospective clients were satisfied
with the performance specifications and then
chose IV Produkt’s ventilation units.

The first transit route in the Prague underground,
the Metro, opened in 1974.
Later on when the old ventilation system
was inspected and the decision was made to
replace it, Vratislav Vrskovsky landed the
contract with the representatives for the
state­owned company that runs the underground
railway.
“They were interested in a supply air unit
that could replace the old ventilation systems
and also would not take up as much space as
the previous ones. Since the space available
for installation was limited, the Flexomix
fitted in well with their requirements and
expectations,” he told us.
As the year has progressed, station after
station along the underground routes have
been refurbished and, among other improvements,
have been equipped with new ventilation
units to the joy of millions of people
who each month ride the Metro and spend
time in the extensive underground railway
network.
“Besides the Flexomix units, we have also
supplied a number of Flexomix and Envistar
Top units with StarCooler and StarCooler
Plus.
These types of integrated cooling unit suit
the underground tremendously well since
there is no way that we can install the cooling
installations outdoors.
Very satisfied
There are a number of manufacturers of
ventilation equipment in the Czech Republic
as well as in neighbouring Poland. But the
representatives for the Metro have chosen
the special characteristics that IV Produkt’s
air handling units have to offer.
“They are very satisfied with the reliability,
performance and quality of the IV Produkt
ventilation units,” said Vratislav Vrsovsky
who hopes for continued deliveries to the
Metro.
“There are many plans for the future. One
plan is a completely new underground railway
route to the airport, which could give
rise to new deliveries from IV Produkt,”
he declared.

Strict Demands Made on
Ventilation Units for Ormen Lange
During 2007, offshore workers will begin extracting
gas from the massive gas field called Ormen Lange
that lies at a depth of roughly 2.000 metres below
the sea bed off the Norwegian coast. IV Produkt has
supplied a number of ventilation units to the process
plant in Nyhamna.
The enormous gas reservoir below the
Norwegian Sea, roughly 120 kilometres
northwest of the Møre Coast, was discovered
by Hydro in 1997 and was named after an
old Viking ship – the Ormen Lange.
Processing plant
Hydro is now busy building the large plant
that is required for receiving, processing and
exporting the gas.
The gas will be transported from the drill
hole that reaches to a depth of approximately
2.000 metres below the sea floor, and through
a pipeline on the sea floor to the processing
plant in Nyhamna located on an island outside
of Kristiansund on the Northern Norwegian
coast. The purified and compressed
gas from the Ormen Lange gas field will
mainly be exported through a long pipeline
to England. Once gas production is well
under way, according to estimates, Ormen
Lange will supply Britain with about 20
percent of its gas.
“Through the contractor Gunnar Karlsén,
IV Produkt has supplied seven ventilation
units that will ventilate the administration
section of the plant,” Svein Solvik explains,
at the Norwegian sales office Noram
Produkter AS.

Good References Behind Delivery to New Theatre
A new addition to Copenhagen’s array of cultural
attractions is under construction. The Danish Royal
Theatre’s new playhouse – the Skuespilhus is now
being built at Kvaesthusbroen.
Anyone who has recently arrived by ferry to
Danish capital could hardly avoid noticing
the new construction site in the inner harbour.
Construction of the Skuespilhus –
literally “the playhouse” – began in 2004
and is expected to be completed in 2008.

actors, IV Produkt landed the commission
through E. Klink A/S to supply air handling
units to the extensive construction site.
“It is a very interesting project where our
previous good references played an important
role in the choice of subcontractor,” Ulf
Jönsson said at IV Produkt in Malmö.
Competitive air handling units
It all started when the Danish consultant
company, Cowi A/S, who are consultative
engineers for the Skuespilhus, were to build a
new office in Lyngby a few years ago and got
in touch with IV Produkt.
“They carefully checked out all the subcontractors
and ultimately chose our products.
Among others, they were especially keen on
the Windstrong fans in our air handling
units,” explains Ulf Jönsson.
With this positive experience in mind,
they gradually came to choose IV Produkt
even at the outset of planning the Skuespilhus
project. Another, and at least just as important
reason, was that the Flexomix air
handling units are well suited for this type of
building and also hold their own in competition
with other makes on the market.

Open new doors
IV Produkt has supplied a total of 21 Flexomix
air handling units to the Skuespilhus via the
Danish contractor E. Klink A/S.
“For us, this is a really great delivery opportunity
which also could open new doors for
future collaboration for similar building projects,”
Ulf Jönsson points out.
The Skuespilhus will contain a large auditorium
with 750 seats and a smaller, flexible
auditorium with 250 seats. The building will
also contain a number of smaller rooms,
foyer and other spaces.

Growing Export
with Great Potential
SLOWLY BUT SURELY, IV Produkt has built up
export trade operations in all of Europe. Their
latest drive has been in England.
”We began on a
modest scale about
ten years ago. Today,
our export volume
stands for 0 percent
of our turnover,” Jan
Axelsson, IV Produkt’s
Export Manager,
explained.

IV Produkt engages sales representatives who
market and sell their ventilation units. At present, the
units are sold in a total of countries. The rotary
heat exchangers are also exported to the USA.
”Working with sales representatives gives more
flexibility compared with running our own trading
companies,” Jan Axelsson said and emphasized
that we have intentionally expanded our export
trade operations on a long-term and sound basis.
He believes that high quality and promised
performance hold their own in competition with
domestic products.
”Our products are, among other endorsements,
certificated in accordance with Eurovent
quality and performance guidelines and this
means that they do exactly what we say they’ll do.
When it comes to our air-cooling products, I also
believe that we have great potential for marketing
them since there is hardly any competition for
similar units abroad.”
Jan Axelsson confidently looks forward to
seeing how the latest investment in IV Product’s
sales representatives operations in the UK will
develop.

Free Cooling Provides
Substantial Energy Savings
Now the time is ripe for IV Produkt’s free cooling unit
for Telecom and IT applications.
“The latest surveys show that significant progress
has been made in reducing the heat
sensitivity of electronic equipment for the 3d
generation telephony inside the so­called
telecom stations – where equipment that
manages electronic operations such as our
mobile telephone calls, video calls, broadband
connections and the like, is housed.
Previously, the cooling load of such applications
was very high and this forced subcontractors
to install air conditioners in the
telecom buildings. But now­a­days the
temperatures that we can achieve with our
cooling units are fully adequate for preventing
the electronic equipment from overheating,”

that the free­cooling unit is dependent on the
outdoor temperature and cannot supply the
same cooling energy as an air conditioner on
a hot summer day. However, new studies
indicate that air conditioning isn’t required.
“Previously experts have claimed that
excessively high temperatures shorten the
useful life of batteries. But progress has been
made even here.”
Among the clients who have realized how
IV Produkt’s free­cooling units would benefit
their applications are Telia Sonera, Vodafone,
3GIS and Banverket (the National Swedish
Rail Administration).
Pierre Trast is convinced that the Telecom
and IT markets are now ripe for free cooling
solutions. “Free­cooling units can save up to
80 percent of the energy that a conventional
air conditioning unit would consume. I believe
that the various companies in the telecom
and IT sector realize the benefits they
can reap by replacing existing cooling plants
with our products”, he said.
