FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Select Massey Ferguson 7400 series tractors feature AGCO SISU Power diesel engines.
These engines continue the quality and power that have become a highly-regarded feature in
Massey Ferguson tractors. The engines are turbocharged, inter-cooled, and feature numerous
improvements like reduced emissions, decreased noise level, and Electronic Engine
Management 3 (EEM3), which is the most advanced EEM to date. The new Citius series engines
are Tier III compliant and feature high pressure Common Rail (CR) fuel injection and 4valve
per cylinder heads for larger gains in torque coverage and engine response.
210-2
Engine information Plate
The engine information plate is attached to the
right (warm) side of the engine near the starter.
It contains information about the engine such
as model, serial number, dyno horsepower,
and the person or team by whom it was assembled.
All AGCO SISU Power engines
proudly display this feature. These plates ensure
that the utmost care and quality went in to
the assembly of the engine.
Single-Piece Cast Iron Block
The robust design of the block adds considerable
strength to the engine allowing it to act as
a major load bearing portion of the tractor.
This reduces the need for an oversized side
frame. The result is a tractor with a shorter
turning radius.
Two, 4-Valve Cylinder Heads
Tier III engines feature two, 4-valve cast cylinder
heads. The new 4-valve design improves
gas exchange approximately 25% over the
previous one piece design. The increased gas
flow also reduces the “pumping” requirement,
freeing up mechanical power. This design
also provides an optimal location for injector
placement, in the center of the head vertically
above the cylinder. Results are lower emissions
and improved fuel burn, which creates
more power and less emissions.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
210-3
Cast Aluminum Valve Covers
A cast aluminum valve cover protects the
valve train from the outside environment. An
o-ring seal keeps harmful dust out and precious
oil in the engine. This design has had a
long history of reliability and durability.
Wet Cylinder Liners with Mid Supports
AGCO SISU Power engines feature wet cylinder
liners that are centrally supported and replaceable.
By efficiently cooling the top end of
each cylinder liner, engine heat is reduced,
thus allowing greater power. The central support
meanwhile reduces vibration by 75%. This
reduces wear on the cylinders and cylinder liners,
reducing blow-by, oil consumption, and
engine noise by 5 db.
Fractured Piston Rods
The big end of the connecting rod is fracturesplit,
making the rough-edged big end stronger
and more durable. The connecting rod can be
made 17% lighter, which reduces vibration
and increases the durability of the engine. The
rods are then connected by special torx bolts.
Reduced rotating mass allows for faster engine
rpm rise.
210-4
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Bosch CRIN2 Electronic Fuel Injector
Tier III engines use the new, 8-hole, Bosch,
solenoid controlled injectors. Each injector is
capable of up to 5 different stages, where previous
versions only had 1. Reduced noise levels
are also a result of this improved precision.
Bosh Rotary Fuel Pump
The fuel pump used in common rail engines
is a fuel lubricated, radial piston pump. The
pump responds very quickly and precisely to
throttle movements together with EEM3. Injection
pressure capacity is very high. The pump
provides the correct amount of fuel needed for
the high-horsepower requirements.
Stanadyne Fuel Filters and Feed Pump
Two fuel filters are located on the “cool” side
of the engine. The pre-filter filters to 30 microns
and the main filter filters to 5 microns.
Fuel is pumped through the filters at a rate
up to 40/60 gal/hr (depending on engine
model), more than enough to feed the fuel
pump. This design is updated from the previous
tier II engines. Using two filters increases
the tractors ability to remove harmful debris
from fuel before entering the engine, and allows
for longer filter life, resulting in reduced
maintenance costs.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
210-5
Common Rail (CR) Injection System
Developed by Bosch for use only in AGCO
SISU Power engines, fuel is pumped up to
high pressure, over 22,000 PSI, in the rail. It is
then released by the injectors into the cylinder
as required for engine speed/power. This configuration
offers more advanced timing of fuel
flow. The EEM3 controls the opening, duration,
and closing of the injectors for an even
quicker response to changing tractor conditions.
Electronic Engine Serial Number
The electronic engine serial number stores
the engine information (serial number, etc.). It
also stores engine history for review by technicians.
It stores things like load profile, hours,
faults, service history, and injector wear
counter. This works with the tractor’s systems
to notify the operator of some faults or assists
the technician with needed repairs, reducing
service time and increasing time in the field.
Inlet Grid Heater
Cold starts are assisted with an air intake grid
heater. The cold air is heated as it passes by
the electrically powered grid. This system is
more effective than a glow plug system.
210-6
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Air Intake System
The cassette style air cleaner is located at the
front of the tractor inside the single-piece hood.
The design allows greater airflow and can hold
up to 20% more dust than canister type filters.
The series of vortices at the bottom of the
housing swirl the larger particles to the outside
of the case where they are sucked out through
the exhaust. The result is a more powerful,
cleaner burning engine with great fuel
consumption ratings.
Electronic Engine Management 3 (EEM3)
All 7400 Series tractors feature Electronic Engine
Management 3 (EEM3). Developed as a
proprietary system, it is the most advanced fuel
injection system to date. The main components
of the system are the fuel pump, common rail,
injectors and ECU. With EEM3 these engines
meet the stringent requirements of Tier III standards
while improving performance and fuel
consumption.
Cooling System
The expandable cooling system on the 7400
Series incorporates a radiator which has been
pre-serviced with antifreeze to –30°F. The
cooling system is made up of five coolers:
transmission oil, hydraulic oil, radiator, intercooler
and A/C condenser. This design aids in
cleaning and has greater cooling capacity than
previous designs. The simple design is easy to
use with the single piece lifting hood.
210-7
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Viscous Fan Drive
The Viscous Fan Drive houses an internal
clutch which responds to engine temperature.
As the engine temperature increases, the
clutch engages and makes the fan spin faster.
This increases total airflow through the radiator
and provides increased cooling capacity. At
low engine temperatures, the fan spins very
little using almost no horsepower; that power is
then available for other functions.
Adjustable Preset Engine Speeds
The EEM3 gives the operator complete control
over the speed of the engine without ever
touching the hand throttle. The EEM3 inputs
allow the operator to set two preset engine
speeds. Engine speeds can be adjusted in
increments of 10 rpm. This enables the operator
to select a predetermined engine speed at
the push of a button. The EEM3 allows adjustment
of engine speed independent of the
hand throttle location. To determine the exact
set engine speed, the Dot Matrix or GTA Console
will always show the set A and B speeds.
DYNA- VT TRANSMISSION
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Massey Ferguson 7400 Series tractors feature the Dyna-VT transmission. Since going into
production in 1996, this CVT has been the world leader in Continuously Variable
Transmissions (CVT). The Dyna-VT provides new levels of performance, productivity, and
efficiency. It offers operators infinite ground speeds that are not dependent upon engine RPM.
It uses a combination of hydraulic and mechanical power to efficiently transfer power to the
ground. This design is not only the most efficient, its strength and reliability have been proven
by over 100,000 units produced to date. Simplicity is key to new technology, and this design
has only ONE electronic controller that can be manually overridden in case of an electronic
failure.
Operators quickly realize that the Dyna-VT is one of the most simple to operate. Additionally,
the two speed ranges, two cruise speeds, and two forward reverse presets help operators
become more productive throughout their day.
Dyna-6 transmission will be available until April 2010.
220-1
Dyna-VT Variability
The Dyna-VT fills in the speed gaps left by
other transmissions. Speeds that cannot otherwise
be obtained with a gear on gear transmission
without altering the engine RPM can
now be attained at any engine speed above
1200 RPM. To maximize production operators
can throttle back and increase speed. Depending
upon conditions, operators can cover
more ground in less time at a lower engine
RPM, saving costly fuel while seeing higher
returns in productivity. This variability translates
directly into higher productions levels at
lower fuel costs.
Single Electronic Actuator
There is only one electronic controller on
Dyna-VT transmissions. This simple design
prevents operators from being “stuck” in case
of an electronic failure, because the controller
can be accessed through a door in the floor of
the tractor. Then, the rod stored at the rear of
the tractor, can be attached to the actuator
and controlled manually. This design virtually
eliminates the chances of leaving a tractor in
the field.
Dynamic Tractor Management
Dynamic Tractor Management (DTM) allows
the CVT to operate at maximum efficiency for
a given ground speed. The operator simply
dials in a specific ground speed and the transmission
finds the optimum setting of power
and fuel efficiency for that ground speed, by
communicating with the engine. Using DTM
allows the tractor to reduce fuel consumption
at times when higher power is not required,
boosting long-term productivity.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
220-2
Fewer Parts
Time and experience has taught that bigger is
not always better. Dyna-VT transmissions
have fewer moving parts when compared to
other transmissions. For instance, there are
only 7 cut gears, which are always under a
constant load, and do not receive the shock
associated with powershift transmissions. The
gears can then be made smaller, which reduces
rotating weight, and makes the transmission
more efficient on fuel and power
transfer. This creates a product that has a
longer life span, increased resale value, and
less maintenance. cost.
Pressure Lubricated Bearings
Every bearing on the Dyna-VT is pressured
lubricated. This allows for smaller components
and more efficient power transfer. Because
these bearings are pressure fed, the cooling
is superior to other designs. The unit is able to
withstand greater loads as heat is dissipated
Separate Oil Reservoir
One of the unique advantages of Dyna-VT
transmissions is the use of a separate oil reservoir.
The oil it houses is only used for the transmission
and differential. The hydraulic tank is
completely separate from the Dyna-VT .
This isolates the oil in the system from the hydraulic
remotes, all but eliminating potential
contamination from outside sources. This feature
also aids in cooling, which results in long
transmission life, durability, and reliability.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
220-3
Simple Operation
Controlling the Dyna-VT is quite simple.
The Three Function Shuttle [A] can declutch,
shuttle forward/reverse, or increase/
decrease speed, all with the left hand. The
Right Hand Controller [B] can be used to increase
or decrease speeds as needed. Simply
push the lever in the direction of travel to
increase and away from the direction of travel
to decrease. The multiple options for operators
makes these transmissions suitable to all
jobs.
Active Stop
Active Stop allows the tractor to stop either
forward or reverse travel by simply raising the
shuttle lever [A] while in motion. The tractor
will stay in place, even on a slope, until the
shuttle lever is lowed back into place.
Speed Ranges
The Dyna-VT has two ranges in which to
operate. The turtle (low) range provides
speeds from 0 to 17 MPH (0-28kph). The rabbit
(high) has speeds from 0 to 25 MPH (0-
40kph). If the optional 31MPH transmission is
selected, the high range simply increases to
31 MPH (50kph). These ranges provide a
speed for every task.
NOTE: While operating in draft or tillage
applications, the Dyna-VT should ALWAYS
be operated in the turtle (low) Range.
Economy
The Dyna-VT transmission provide a feature
which allows the operator to save fuel during
transport. The tractor can operate at a speed of
up to 31 (optional) mph @ 1900 rpm making
transport much more economical. This reduces
fuel costs, and operating cycle times. It will
also improve the life of the engine and decrease
the amount of maintenance.
Adjustable Cruise Speeds
The Dyna-VT has two adjustable cruise
speeds in each range. The cruise speeds can
be engaged, when the engine RPM is above
1100, by pressing the corresponding button
on the right hand armrest. Slowing for a turn
at a headland is much easier. Simply press
the button that corresponds to the programmed
slower speed, then once the turn is
made, press the other button to activate the
previous speed setting.
Programmable Shuttle Speeds
The programmable shuttle speeds provides a
convenience in operation. Programming the
forward and reverse shuttle speeds is effortless
and quick. An operator can custom tailor
the speeds for what ever works best in that
particular application, such as loader work or
silage packing.
Cruise speeds
Forward & Reverse shuttle speeds
Foot Pedal Mode
The foot pedal mode was designed to make
delicate work, trouble-free. When engaged the
tractor will operate much like a car. When the
pedal is pressed the tractor responds by
increasing the engine and ground speed.
There are three different modes available:
Power Mode, Economy Mode, and Forager
Mode.
Power Mode
The power mode is used for maximum engine
power for the selected ground speed, in this
case 5 mph. Maximum engine speed is selected
using the SV1 dial.
Economy Mode
Economy mode allows the selected ground
speed at a reduced engine RPM. Engine
speed is selected using the SV1 dial. Economy
mode saves valuable fuel on jobs that
require less power.
Forager Mode
Forager mode is most beneficial for PTO
applications. When engaged, the engine can
be set to a specific RPM, then the foot pedal
is used to control the speed of the tractor.
PTO driven implements can now maintain the
proper RPM and the operator can vary the
speed of the tractor according to conditions.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
220-6
Turbo Clutch
The turbo clutch functions allows the operator
to stop the tractor (with the engine BELOW
1250 RPM) using only the brakes. This
feature provides precise control during loader
work or attaching an implement.
Engine Supervisor
The engine supervisor allows operators to set
the percentage of engine RPM loss allowed
under heavy loads before the transmission
adjusts the output ratio. This would be similar
to downshifting in a powershift tractor, yet
there is no power loss to the ground with the
Dyna-VT. This feature can also be used in
conjunction with PTO operated implements
where maintaining engine speed is important.
The engine supervisor further enhances the
efficiency of CVT transmissions.
Optional 31 MPH (50 KPH) Transmission
The optional 31 MPH Dyna-VT adds to an
already powerful package. The ability to
transport the tractor and implements is
increased 28% over the standard speed,
allowing for more time in the field and
performing other tasks. The suspended front
axle is required with this option.
FRAME AND AXLES
230-1
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
The 7400 series tractors feature a tested, proven design on their rear differential, brakes, and
final drives. The rear differential lock can be electro hydraulically engaged with the use of a
rocker switch located on the right console to ensure a proper, smooth engagement.
Coupled with the rear differential system, are the inboard rear planetary final drives. The final
drives on Dyna-VT equipped tractors operate in heavy gear oil to ensure proper lubrication,
reduce heat, and provide long wear life.
This tractor series does not have a full frame, as all the major components are designed to be
part of the tractor structure. Side rails are available for applications requiring the mounting of
tanks or other components to the tractor, but they are not needed for loader applications.
The 7400 series tractors have smooth progressive braking supplied by a wet, rear disc braking
system. This system consists of ring pistons, brake discs, and steel backing plates. In addition,
the brake discs are immersed in hydraulic oil to keep the discs lubricated and cool.
Independent suspended pedals operate the individual turning brakes. For transport, the pedals
can be latched together to provide equal braking effort to each wheel. Dual brake actuation will
electro-hydraulically engage the PFA (Power Front Axle) clutch. Dyna-VT transmissions
are also equipped with a Cardan brake, which supplies additional braking power on the PFA
shaft.
In addition, 7400 series tractors feature a parking brake as standard equipment. The park
brake is engaged by a lever to the left of the seat.
Rear Wet Disc Brakes
Wet rear discs brakes provide smooth,
progressive, fade free braking. The wet
system keeps the discs cool during operation
which maintains constant braking power and
reduces fade. It also reduces wear to provide
for a long service life and decreased
maintenance.
Automatic Four Wheel Braking
When both brake pedals are pressed
simultaneously, the PFA clutch will engage,
having a four wheel braking effect. This
effectively ties all four wheels together for
greater breaking capacity. This feature
increases operator safety when towing heavy
loads.
Front Axle Braking
In addition to the auto four wheel braking, all
Dyna-VT equipped tractors feature a Cardan
brake on the front driveline. This additional
brake pack raises the total number to 3 brake
packs. This industry leading feature allow
these tractors to stop greater loads with less
effort, increasing safety and productivity.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
230-2
Park Brake
The manual parking brake on 7400 series
tractors operates independently of other tractor
systems. This simple system provides a
greater margin of safety, and is easy to use. An
optional electronic park brake is now available.
Differential Locks
The differential locks on the 7400 series
tractors are controlled by a convenient rocker
switch located on the right console. This
switch provides quick, convenient access for
the operator to engage the differential locks
when needed.
When engaged all powered axles will distribute
power equally to each wheel, increasing
pulling ability. In PFA configurations, the front
differential features a locking mechanism so
operators enjoy a true 4wd tractor. This increased
productivity, and reduces wheel slip.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
230-3
Bar Axles
The 7400 series tractors are equipped with
large diameter axles, and are available in long
and short configurations. This size axle
provides wider rear wheel tread width
adjustments, and also provides extra space for
dual wheel applications. Furthermore, the
added strength of the larger axle provides
improved adaptability for high torque field
Rear Axle Reduction Units
The rear axle reduction units for Dyna-VT
tractors are an inboard style. The units also
use gear oil for lubrication, that is separate
from the transmission/differential, hydraulics,
and each side. Using heavier oil provides
greater lubrication, superior cooling, and great
load capacities. Plus, having the fluid separate
from other tractor components virtually
eliminates the chance for cross-contamination
and premature failure.
Powered Front Axle
7400 series tractors are available factory installed
with a Powered Front Axle (PFA). The
front axle is matched for the horsepower and
chassis size of each tractor model. A single
piece of cast-iron makes up the center housing.
Heavy outboard planetary housings with
high load carrying capacities. A maximum front
wheel turn angle of 55 degrees and axle oscillation
of +/-11° maintains positive tire to ground
contact. For additional strength and protection,
all PFA equipped tractors feature a center line
drive. The front axle drive engages on-the-go
as needed, by use of a rocker switch on the
right hand console.
Single Center Pin Frame Mount
This feature provides a single mounting point
for the front axle. In addition to allowing a full
range of motion, the single mount reduces
maintenance time by having a single service
point.
Shielded Centerline Drive
The shielded centerline drive allows for a reduction
in the total number of universal joints in
the drive system. This reduces maintenance
time and potential wear points.
55° Maximum Steering Angle
A tight 55° steering angle allows the 7400 series
to maintain a tight turning radius. This
wide turning angle also allows the tractor
greater maneuverability in tight spaces.
Front Fenders
Optional fixed or pivoting (shown) front fenders
can be equipped. Front fenders deflect debris
coming from the front tires and reduce the
chances of the material coming in contact with
the tractor cab or impacting other traffic during
transport. It is recommended that you order
fenders the same width or wider than the front
tires.
Suspended Front Axle
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Front axle suspension is an option to the PFA on 7400 series tractors. The key advantage of
the front axle suspension system is the increased ground contact it provides by reducing wheel
slip and power hop. When the tractor encounters rough terrain, the front axle will remain on
the ground pulling the tractor rather than hopping and allowing the wheels to spin freely. In addition,
the front suspension provides greater steering control and reduces fore and aft pitching
when towing heavy loads. The simple design and ease of maintenance provides solid handling
while increasing productivity.
The front suspension system also provides a convenient on / off switch which allows the system
to be disengaged during heavy loader and grading operations. In the off position, the hydraulic
accumulators allow the hydraulic ram to lower and rest on the axle. When lowered on
the axle, the system still maintains the full range motion of +/-11° oscillation.
230-7
Front Suspension System (Optional)
The optional front suspension system allows
the tractor to keep the front tires in constant
contact with the ground. This eliminates excess
slippage and reduces both tire wear and damage
to the front drive train. Additional benefits
include more responsive steering, smoother
ride at high speeds, and reduced load shocks.
Front axle suspension is required for 31 MPH
(50kph) configurations.
Easy Disengagement Switch
A convenient rocker switch allows the front
suspension to be disengaged for certain operations,
including heavy loader work and grading.
In the off position, the hydraulic suspension
ram lowers the system until it rests on the axle.
The entire axle will still maintain the full range
of oscillation. This feature allows tractors
equipped with the suspension system to be
used in the most demanding of applications.
GTA software. One significant benefit is the
ability to adjust transmission speed and engine
RPM for the best possible fuel consumption.
Trailed Implement Control (TIC)
TIC is a digital operating system that uses the
console to monitor ground speed and wheel
slippage. Used with tractor’s hydraulics, the
working depth can be slightly varied to control
slippage and keep field travel speed and engine
performance at their peak. This system
utilizes the Electronic Linkage Control, Datatronics
III, and the hydraulic valves for precision
tillage operation and a high level of tractor
performance. TIC helps to increase field productivity
and keep the tractor operating at optimum
performance, while reducing tire wear
and fuel consumption.
ISOBUS Compatibility
The ISOBUS 11783 standard applies to the
hardware and software of tractor and implement
communication in both Agriculture and
Forestry. This common platform allows compliant
tractors of any brand or model to communicate
with implements of different brand or
model without the need for additional monitors
or terminals. This reduces the cost associated
with purchase of a new tractor or implement.
Dual Stage Pneumatic Cab Suspension
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Massey Ferguson 7400 Series tractors now offer Pneumatic Cab Suspension. This system is
designed similar to the systems currently used on highway trucks. Two electronically controlled
air baffles at the rear of the cab constantly maintain a set air pressure as ride conditions
change. In addition, adjustable hydraulic dampers and pan hard rods are mounted in line with
the air baffles to eliminate unwanted oscillations. The front of the cab is also isolated from the
chassis by a dual cushion of rubber. Rubber rollers in addition to rubber mounting pads further
isolate the cab and reduce both vibration and noise.
Front Rubber Roller Mounts
The front of the cab is supported by rubber
roller mounts. These mounts help to isolate the
cab structure from the chassis and reduce the
amount of vibration transferred to the cab.
This helps to increase operator comfort and
reduce fatigue from prolonged exposure to vibration.
SERVICEABILITY
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Easy access for routine tractor maintenance was an emphasis in the design of the 7400 series.
The hood may be fully raised from the front of the tractor with the push of a button. Additional
moving parts make cleaning the radiator, oil cooler, and air conditioning condenser easier.
Daily service of items such as engine oil level check, engine oil fill, and fuel filter drain can be
accomplished without raising the hood. Other service points such as transmission oil and
hydraulic oil can be easily checked. To prevent backsplashes and spills, the tractor features
ground level fueling with a large inlet. An external cab air filter access hatch and battery box
makes periodic maintenance easier.
Finally, the incorporation of a weather-resistant toolbox molded to the side of the fuel tank
provides storage for tools and accessories outside the tractor.
Single Piece Hood
The simple design of the single-piece hood
provides operators with fast access to service
areas. The hood lift height is restricted by a
tether, but can be removed for even greater
access to the engine area. Removing the side
panels provides unobstructed access to the
engine area.
Removable Side Panels
The removable side panels attach at 4 points
using a friction spring clip. The removable side
panels provides access to filters, belts and
other engine components. This design is much
simpler and takes less time to remove and
install than previous models.
Cassette Style Air Cleaner
All 7400 Series tractors are equipped with a
cassette style air cleaner which is easily accessed
when the hood is raised. An aspirated
system is standard. It draws out the fine dust
particles from the air cleaner for optimum filter
life under extreme operating conditions. This
style air cleaner is designed to trap 20% more
fine particles than previous filters while providing
more airflow.
Hydraulic Oil Fill
For Dyna-VT equipped tractors, the hydraulic
oil fill is located on the right side of the tractor
next to the steps. The fill is protected by a
plastic cover that is held in place by a simple
wing nut. Operators will encounter no
obstructions from mounted implements or the
hitch at this location.
Transmission Oil Fill
The Dyna-VT fill is located at the rear of the
tractor where most other tractors have a
hydraulic fill point. A simple cap with a flexible
dipstick makes checking and filling painless.
A
TIRES
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
MASSEY FERGUSON ® 7400 SERIES
Massey Ferguson 7400 Series tractors use the proven technology of Michelin Tires. Michelin
provides a wide range of tire sizes to meet almost any application. From narrow row crop tires
to high capacity flotation tires, Michelin has the tires to meet your needs.
The taller R1W lug design on the Michelin tire provides continuous gripping power as the tire
wears. In addition, a greater sidewall flexing zone allows the tire to put more tread on the
ground. This larger footprint increases flotation and provides greater traction. Finally, Michelin
tires are approved for use above 25 mph, even under full load. *
The addition of Michelin tires to your Massey Ferguson tractors will provide increased efficiency,
reduced slippage, and prolonged tire wear.
* Tires must be inflated properly. Please read the Agriculture Tire Data Book by Michelin or
go to www.michelinag.com for complete details and proper inflations values.
295-1
Radial Ag Tires
All Michelin Ag tires are of a radial design. The
advantaged of a radial tire over a bias ply tire is
the ability to put a larger and more consistent
footprint on the ground. Most bias ply tires
have an oval shape footprint while radial tires
have a rectangular footprint.
Lug Depth
The tread type for a Michelin Agribib tire is
commonly referred to as R1-W. These tires
have a taller lug than the R1 tires. Michelin has
designed a sharp vertical lug for the Agribib.
This allows the tire to maintain traction even
when the tire has only 30% of the tread left.
This translates to higher production over a
longer life than competitive tires.
Tire Pressure
Michelin radial Ag tires are designed to be operated
at air pressures lower than previous
tires. These lower pressures allow the footprint
of the tire to lengthen providing more traction
and less compaction. Often, when a Michelin
tire is properly inflated it may appear “low” or
“flat”. It is important to review the tire’s inflations
chart from Michelin to determine the
proper air pressure.
