Cooling bed. In July 2007, Athens-based Hellenic Halyvourgia S.A. started up a new High-Speed Delivery system (HSD ® ) from SMS Meer. Since then, the Greek steelmaker’s productivity has risen distinctly. Today, almost one year later, a long-term evaluation confirms the excellent production figures: with the new equipment, Hellenic Haly - vourgia’s productivity for 8mm-diameter rebars is 50 % higher than with the former mill configuration.
Revamp with just minor production losses To modernize the long-product mill, the patented HSD ® High-Speed Delivery system was installed during the scheduled annual maintenance shutdown so that revamping did not cause any major production losses. Parallel to the installation of the HSD ® system, the rolling mill was modernized and all measures for dismantling the old machines and ancillary facilities were carried out. FAC issued after just 10 months In spite of the tense delivery situation worldwide for plant components, SMS Meer succeeded to supply, erect and commission the complete facility on schedule, just six months after contract signing in January 2007. In November 2007, around 10 months after the signing of the contract, Hellenic Halyvourgia officially accepted the mill and issued the FAC. HSD ® system. Newsletter No. 2/2008 55
