receives bar mill
Hamriyah Steel, a joint venture
recently set up by Russian
Metalloinvest Group and
Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin
Zayed Al Nahyan from the
United Arab Emirates, chose
SMS Meer to erect a bar mill
in the Emirate of Sharjah
(UAE). The mill will be designed
for an annual production
of 1 million t of bars. The
main customer will be the
UAE’s booming building industry.
Hamriyah Steel intends
to put the new mill into
operation at the end of 2009.
Equipment, services plus electrics and
automation. SMS Meer will supply the
complete rolling mill including electrical
and automation systems. In addition, we
will be responsible for erection supervision,
commissioning and training. The automation
system made by SMS Meer will
monitor and control the whole production
process.
180 t of billets per hour. A 180-t/h walking-beam
furnace feeds the rolling mill
with square billets of 125 x 125 mm to
170 x 170 mm with lengths of up to 12 m
which are rolled into bars with diameters
between 10 and 40 mm.
Housingless stands. The rolling mill will
be equipped with horizontal and vertical
housingless stands, some of which can
be used as both horizontal and vertical
units. The stands come with quick-changing
devices. The smallest sizes will be
rolled by means of the four-slit rolling
method. A water box for quenching and
tempering the bars ensures the specific
mechanical properties for the building industry.
The fully automated cooling bed,
the separating devices as well as the
bundling and tying station will likewise be
supplied by SMS Meer.
