Plan Conference
On Children
The liiacentury White House
Conference on Children and Youth
will be held in Washington, D. C.
in December under the Federal
Children^ Bureau. This is the fifth
such conference called by the
President of the United States and
each of the others has produced
important results in improving
health and child welfare standards,
child labor legislation, and Federal-state
cooperative programs
for better State and local services
for children.
This year attention U being focused
on bringing together present
knowledge about the status of children
and finding out where further
study is needed, pointing out
the needs of parents, examining
the ways people are now working
together for children and initiating
steps for the achievement of the
conference recommendations in the
coming- decade.
To accomplish these aims -much
preliminary work has been done
in each state. Governor Driscoll
has appointed the "Governor's
Committee on Youth" with Mrs.
Hortense F. Kessler .as chairman
and Douglas H. MacNeil as secretary.
Each of the twenty-one counties
in New Jersey has a committee to
study local services to children
and youth, and submit reports of
their findings and show where they
think there are gaps that shoul
be filled. These committees will ri
