Cryopreservation – trial and error
It is clear that cryopreserving equine semen is far more complex than most owners imagine.
An optimal freezing protocol varies between laboratories and is determined by practical implications,
limited by the infrastructure. But above all, the intrinsic quality and characteristics of an ejaculate is
by far the most determining factor that will decide on the outcome after thawing. So after all, the
stallion determines the cryopreservation protocol, and test freezing ejaculates using different
extenders and cooling/freezing rates is often rewarding.
