once a week during the summer. They start
from the square outside the Art gallery/

The Art gallery arranges some 20 exhibitions
a year featuring artists from all over Sweden.
Selected items from the donated "Qvistska
collection" are also exhibited. Once a year a
children and youth exhibition is held, at which
art created by Härnösand's pupils is put on

D5 HÄRNÖSAND CATHEDRAL
This beautiful, white cathedral was consecrated
in 1846 and stands where the original
stone church from 1593 once stood. The
stone church was destroyed in a fire in the
1720s.The art in the cathedral is well-worth

Three libraries under one roof in a meeting
place of 'different' architectural design. Five
stories high with exhibition space, programme
halls, reading workshop, educational

Parkaden is Härnösand's leading conference
and entertainment centre with space for over
500 seated participants. Exhibitions, lectures,

The facility has been totally renovated and
now contains a relaxation section with bubble
pool, heated and unheated pools, steam
sauna, experience showers etc. Sauna on the

also training and weight-lifting facilities, and
various exercise groups are arranged.

CENTRE There are two guest harbours in
Härnösand within walking distance of the
town centre's shops, restaurants, entertainment
etc. Hernö Marina, a modern installation
with boat fuelling facilities, lies a few
hundred metres south of Norra Sundet guest

AND OPEN-AIR MUSEUM Here is the
story of Västernorrland. Permanent exhibitions
on people and artefacts from the Stone
Age onward. Temporary exhibitions with
art, handicraft, photography, film and socially
topical subjects.The open-air museum is
one of the largest of its kind in the country,
depicting both urban and rural environments.
During the summer the exhibits are peopled
(role play), and there is always plenty of interest

C5 VÄSTANÅFALLET NATURE RESERVE
The combined 90 m high waterfall is the
second highest in the country. The nature
reserve has a nature room with a handicraft
workshop, exhibition of Västanå Mill, flora and
fauna, multi-slide presentation, blacksmiths',
shop and café. Tourist information during the
summer. Handicraft days, various excursions
and the yearly folk musicians gathering are

D5 HEMSÖ FÄSTNING
Here you can visit a military base from the
cold war days. Hemsö Fortress is 'inserted'
40 metres down in Storråberget. It is fully intact
and gives a unique insight into Sweden's
foremost Cold War coastal defence
