This cavity-wall church dates from the
13th century and has a medieval wooden
door, chandeliers in iron and imposing wall

When Ramsele power station was built
1953-58, 7 km of Faxälven river became
redundant and consequently a 'dead falls'. This
revealed hundreds of giant 'cauldrons' formed

B2 NÄMFORSENS HÄLLBILDSCENTRUM
– ROCK ART Nämforsen along the Ångermanälven
river is one of the largest rockcarving
locations in northern Europe. There
are some 2 300 known carved figures and
lines on the islands of Notön, Brådön and
Laxön and the nearby shorelines. The oldest
of them may have been inscribed more than
6 000 years ago. There are pictures of northern
hunting people's lives - mainly of moose
- through a hundred generations,
as well as symbols and figures that indicate
contact with people from further south.
The huge collection of rock carvings, the
special environment associated with the Nip
landscape and the released rapids during
the summer make Nämforsen a world-class

was grounded in 1973. Now it has a culture
centre, its own kindergarten and many small
enterprises. The textile artist Sarah Mårskog
