<strong>The</strong> name Sollefteå is said to have been derived from "the sunny region". <strong>The</strong>se regions<br />

around Ångermanälven river, with its sandy river banks and surrounding hills have<br />

caused people to meet here for time immemorial.<br />

Maybe this is why recent sur veys have shown that visitors to the Ådalen valley are particularly<br />

enthusiastic about the hospitality they meet here , today. Writers, ar tist and athletes<br />

seem to thrive in its friendly climate . Lars Molin, for example , grew up in Ramsele ,<br />

and Kerstin Thor vall and Laura Fitinghoff are from the central district where actress Ingrid<br />

Thulin also lived. <strong>The</strong> cyclist Emma Johansson, biathlonist Helena Ekholm and skiers<br />

Billan and Håkan Westin are others who have shone through.<br />

C3 KLOCKHUSET<br />

Torbjörn Holmer has collected clocks since<br />

the 1960s and now exhibits his 750 table,<br />

wall and standing clocks of 4 decades in a<br />

renovated, extended barn.With the help<br />

of his brother Lars, a former architect, he<br />

has created a space for time. In addition to<br />

guided tours, Torbjörn and his wife arrange<br />

events throughout the year. <strong>The</strong>se range from<br />

jazz concerts to religious services. Guided<br />

tours and refreshments can be arranged all<br />

C3 GÅLSJÖ BRUK<br />

<strong>The</strong> 18th-century iron works and manor<br />

house, blacksmiths and the smiths' housing<br />

have been preserved and complemented.<br />

<strong>The</strong> blacksmiths is in regular use today. Wide<br />

choice of activities: illuminated exercise trail,<br />

forest trail, bathing,canoeing and fishing. Also<br />

accomodation and conferences with a wide<br />

C3 ANCIENT REMAINS<br />

BJÖRKÅ-HOLM Björkåfältet contains<br />

remains from the Iron Age and is the largest,<br />

raised-burial-ground in Ångermanland county.<br />

<strong>The</strong> only country estate in Norrland is also<br />

<strong>The</strong> museum develops and preserves artefacts<br />

of cultural historic value via four exhibitions:<br />

prehistoric, forest, river and defence.<br />

CAMPING <strong>The</strong>re are three heated, out-door<br />

pools at Risöns bad in the middle of Sollefteå.<br />

has a go-kart track, climbing wall and minigolf<br />

Nipstadsfishing is perfect for those in search<br />

of comfortable, easily available fishing. Exciting<br />

salmon and trout fishing in the Ångermanälven<br />

river in the middle of Sollefteå with 200<br />

m of fishing on both sides of the river.<strong>The</strong><br />

season lasts from April to November with<br />

high-season June - August. 12 Fishing permits<br />

much of interest among the 50 or so tractors<br />

and machines in this collection, including<br />

a BM 10 half-track from 1950 and a steam<br />

B3 MEÅFORSEN<br />

Meåforsen is the only remaining natural rapids<br />

in the Faxälven river and is very popular<br />

with grayling fishers. <strong>The</strong> rapids are about 25<br />

A2 WATER SKIING<br />

Have a go at water skiing, trick skiing, slalom,<br />

wakeboard, kneeboard and scurfer is found at<br />

Rammsjön lake, Edsele. Wetsuits and life vests<br />

are available. BBQ places and sauna. Disabledpersons<br />
