The numbers of FSE of the different building categories are lower in this<br />

year’s submission compared to last year’s. This is due to two different<br />

changes that were implemented this year. Firstly, the introduction of the additional<br />

buildings category means that buildings like e.g. garages and sheds<br />

have been moved from detached houses to additional buildings. Secondly,<br />

the damage rates have been changed from large, medium and small of respectively<br />

100 %, 50 % and 5 % to full, large, medium and small of respectively<br />

100 %, 75 %, 30 % and 5 %<br />

The amount of detailed activity data is still limited due to the few years of<br />

reported data in the ODIN system, during the next years more data will become<br />

available providing a better basis <strong>for</strong> extrapolating back in time.<br />

&NJTTJPO GBDUPST<br />

For building fires, emissions are calculated by multiplying the number of<br />

full scale equivalent fires with the emission factors. The estimation of emissions<br />

is based on emission factors from literature. The estimation is based on<br />

the measurements and estimations per<strong>for</strong>med in countries that are comparable<br />

to Denmark. By comparable is meant countries that have similar building<br />

traditions, in relation to the material used in building structure and interior.<br />

In the process of selecting the best reliable emission factors <strong>for</strong> the calculation<br />

of the emissions from Danish accidental building fires, a range of different<br />

sources have been studied. Un<strong>for</strong>tunately it is difficult to do an interrelated<br />

comparison of the different sources because they all establish emission<br />

factors on different assumptions and many of these assumptions are not<br />

fully accounted <strong>for</strong>. Table 7.17 lists the emission factors that were chosen <strong>for</strong><br />

2010 as the best reliable and their respective references.
