Even though the total number of yearly cremations is fluctuating, the cremation<br />

percentage has been steadily increasing since 1984, and is likely to continue<br />

to increase.<br />

The average body weight of cremated corpses is assumed to be 65 kg.<br />

Figure 7.2 presents the trend of the national number of deceased persons t<strong>og</strong>ether<br />

with the activity data <strong>for</strong> human cremation. The figure shows a direct<br />

connection between the number of deceased and the activity of human cremation<br />

as the two trends are quite similar. Figure 7.2 also shows the effect of<br />

the increasing fraction of cremated bodies, as the number of cremations is<br />

not decreasing along with the number of deceased. The cremation fraction<br />

has increased from 67 % in 1990 to 77 % in 2010; the trend of this fraction is<br />

shown in Figure 7.1, Table 7.3 and Annex 2D Table 2D-1.<br />

For crematoria, emissions are calculated by multiplying the total number of<br />

cremations by the emission factors. Since there are no measurements available<br />

of the yearly emission from Danish crematoria, the estimation of emis-
