The tractor and harvester developments towards fewer vehicles and larger<br />

engines, shown in Figure 3.90, are very clear. From 1985 to 2010, tractor and<br />

harvester numbers decrease by around 20 % and 54 %, respectively, whereas<br />

the average increase in engine size <strong>for</strong> tractors is 32 %, and 175 % <strong>for</strong> harvesters,<br />

The most important machinery types <strong>for</strong> industrial use are different types of<br />

construction machinery and <strong>for</strong>k lifts. The Figures 3.91 and 3.92 show the<br />

1985-2010 stock development <strong>for</strong> specific types of construction machinery<br />

and diesel <strong>for</strong>k lifts. Due to lack of data, the construction machinery stock<br />

<strong>for</strong> 1990 is used also <strong>for</strong> 1985-1989. For most of the machinery types there is<br />

an increase in machinery numbers from 1990 onwards, due to increased construction<br />

activities. It is assumed that track type excavators/wheel type<br />

loaders (0-5 tonnes), and telescopic loaders first enter into use in 1991 and<br />

1995, respectively.<br />
