gross vehicle weight. The data has been further processed by DTU Transport;<br />

by using appropriate assumptions the mileage have been backcasted to<br />

number of cars with an engine size smaller than 1.4 litres.<br />

There has been a considerable growth in the number of diesel light-duty vehicles<br />

from 1985 to 2006; the number of vehicles has however decreased<br />

somewhat after 2006.<br />

For the truck-trailer and articulated truck combinations there is a tendency<br />

towards the use of increasingly larger trucks throughout the time period.<br />

The decline in fleet numbers <strong>for</strong> many of the truck categories in 2007/2008<br />

and until 2009 is caused by the impact of the global financial crisis and the<br />

reflagging of Danish commercial trucks to companies based in the<br />

neighbouring countries.<br />
