Large emission sources such as power plants, industrial plants and refineries<br />

are included as large point sources in the Danish emission database. Each<br />

point source may consist of more than one part, e.g. a power plant with several<br />

units. By registering the plants as point sources in the database, it is possible<br />

to use plant-specific emission factors.<br />

In the inventory <strong>for</strong> the year 2010, 77 stationary combustion plants are specified<br />

as large point sources. These point sources include:<br />

• Power plants and decentralised CHP plants.<br />

• Waste incineration plants.<br />

• Large industrial combustion plants.<br />

• Petroleum refining plants.<br />

The criteria <strong>for</strong> selection of point sources consist of the following:<br />

• All centralized power plants, including smaller units.<br />

• All units with a capacity of above 25 MWe.<br />

• All district heating plants with an installed effect of 50 MWth or above<br />

and significant fuel consumption.<br />

• All waste incineration plants obliged to report environmental data annually<br />

according to Danish law (DEPA 2010).<br />

• Industrial plants,<br />

• with an installed effect of 50 MWth or above and significant fuel consumption.<br />

• with a significant process related emission.<br />

The fuel consumption of stationary combustion plants registered as large<br />

point sources in the 2010 inventory was 325 PJ. This corresponds to 59 % of<br />

the overall fuel consumption <strong>for</strong> stationary combustion.<br />

A list of the large point sources <strong>for</strong> 2010 and the fuel consumption rates is<br />

provided in Annex 2A-6. The number of large point sources registered in the<br />

databases increased from 1990 to 2010.<br />

The emissions from a point source are based either on plant specific emission<br />

data or, if plant specific data are not available, on fuel consumption data<br />

and the general Danish emission factors. Annex 2A-6 shows which of the<br />

emission data <strong>for</strong> large point sources are plant-specific and the corresponding<br />

share of the emission from stationary combustion.<br />

SO2 and NOx emissions from large point sources are often plant-specific<br />

based on emission measurements. Emissions of CO, NMVOC, PM, heavy<br />

metals and dioxin are also plant-specific <strong>for</strong> some plants. Plant-specific<br />

emission data are obtained from:<br />

• Annual environmental reports / environmental reporting available on<br />

the Danish EPA home page 3 (PRTR data)<br />

• Annual plant-specific reporting of SO2 and NOx from power plants<br />

>25MWe prepared <strong>for</strong> the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) and <strong>Energi</strong>net.dk<br />

• Emission data reported by DONG Energy and Vattenfall, the two major<br />

electricity suppliers<br />
