15'S))] Oatesetal., 1964:96. Giju is defined as "crab<br />

or lobster," but considering the range <strong>of</strong> the Gugu-<br />

Yalanji on the Bloomfield River and its tributaries,<br />

together with the limited distribution <strong>of</strong> C. wasselli,<br />

there seems a good liklihood that the word does refer to<br />

the PARASTACIDAE.<br />

gilgie PARASTACIDAE, Cherax quinquecarinatus and<br />

C. crassimanus; Australian English word derived from<br />

the Aboriginal gilgai or gilgie, a natural saucer-shaped<br />

depression in the ground that serves as a reservoir for<br />

rain water. Gilgies are freshwater crayfishes found in<br />

such holes (Wilkes, 1978 (1988): 155. [Australia:<br />

Western Australia, Perth-Albany region; Nyungar<br />

Aboriginal tribe (probably = Wudjari Aboriginal tribe<br />

<strong>of</strong> Tindale, 1974:261 (119°45'E x 33°40'S))] Dixon,<br />

Ramson, and Thomas, 1990:98. Note that Mosimann<br />
