mijn gebed.
Ere zij God.
Kroon mijn hart, eeuwige Geest, met
eeuwige liefde.
eeuwige liefde.
Sine Nomine
Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
Voor alle heilgen in de heerlijkheid
die U beleden in hun aardse strijd,
zij Uw naam lof, o Jezus, te allen tijd!
Halleluja, halleluja!
Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their
Might,
Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought
fight.
Though in the darkness drear their one true Light.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Macht;
Gij, Heer, hun Loods en Licht in storm en
nacht;
Gij hebt Uw pelgrims veilig thuisgebracht.
Halleluja, halleluja!
Halleluja, halleluja!
Ten einde raad ontzinkt ons haast de moed
maar in de verte klinkt ons tegemoet
trompetgeschal dat Gij weerklinken doet!
Halleluja, halleluja!
Weeping Mary
(From “The Social Harp”)
John G. McCurry (1821-1886), Arr. Brad Holmes (2007)
Are there anybody here like Mary a-weepin’?
Call to my Jesus and he’ll draw nigh.
Glory, glory be to my God on high.
Are there anybody here like Peter a-sinkin’?
Call to my Jesus and he’ll draw nigh.
Glory, glory be to my God on high.
Are there anybody here like jailors
a-tremblin’?
Call to my Jesus and he’ll draw nigh.
Glory, glory to my God on high.
I am the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the
Valleys.
As the lily among the thorns,
so is my Love among the Daughters.
As the Apple tree among the trees of the Wood.
So is my Beloved among the Sons.
I sat down under his shadow with great delight.
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.
He brought me to the Banqueting house,
His banner over me was love.
Stay me with flagons,
Comfort me with Apples,
for I am sick of Love.
I charge you O ye Daughters of Jerusalem,
By the Roes and by the Hinds of the field,
That you stir not up,
nor Awake my Love till he please.
The voice of my beloved,
Behold he cometh,
Leaping upon the mountain
skipping upon the Hills.
The Rose of Sharon
William Billings (1746-1800)
zo is mijn Liefste onder de zonen;
ziet Hem, Hij komt,
springende op de bergen,
huppelende op de heuvels!
My Beloved spake,
And said unto me,
Rise up my Love, my fair one,
For Lo, the Winter is past,
the rain is over and gone.
Christ, He requires still,
whereso’er He comes,
To feed, or lodge, to have the best of rooms:
Give Him the choice;
grant Him the nobler part
Of all the house:
the best of all’s the heart.
The Best of Rooms
Randall Thompson (1899-1984)
Mijn Liefste antwoordt,
Geef Hem het beste;
schenk Hem het mooiste deel
Van het hele huis:
het beste van alles is het hart.
“Past Life Melodies” was composed in 1991
by Sarah Hopkins for St. Peters Lutheran
College, a high school in Brisbane, Australia.
The melodic ideas of the work, like those in
all of Hopkins’ music, are simple in structure
and reach deep into the soul. The first melody
was one which haunted the composer for many
years—a melody which came to her at moments
of deep emotion. The second melody
reflects her considerable interest in the music of
various world cultures, and in this particular
case her eight years of residence in Darwin in
the north of Australia, where she had much
contact with Australian Aboriginal art and
music. The third section of the work utilizes a
concept called harmonic-overtone singing, which
is as ancient a technique as singing itself. Here
the separate harmonic voices weave and dart
like “golden threads” above the earthy drone
sustained by the main body of the choir. —
Past Life Melodies
Sarah Hopkins (b.1958)
“Past Life Melodies” (“Melodieën van
No matter what I’m gonna
keep on praising the Lord.
I’m gonna praise Him til I make it home.
No matter what I’m gonna
keep on serving the Lord.
I’m gonna serve Him til I make it home.
Oh through trials, tribulations,
I’ll keep praising every day.
Oh I’m determined to go with
Him all the way.
So I’ll praise Him til I make it home.
No matter what I’m gonna keep on working
for the Lord, etc.
The evening hangs beneath the moon,
A silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head
I know that sleep is coming soon.
Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,
I cannot sleep, my mind’s aflight;
And yet my limbs seem made of lead.
If there are noises in the night,
A frightening shadow,
flickering light;
Then I surrender unto sleep,
Where clouds of dream give second sight.
What dreams may come,
both dark and deep,
Of flying wings and soaring leap
As I surrender unto sleep,
As I surrender unto sleep.
No Matter What I’m Gonna Keep On
Raymond Wise (b.1961)
Sleep
Eric Whitacre (b.1970)
werken, etc.
De avond hangt onder de maan,
Een zilveren draad op een verduisterd duin.
Met dichtvallende ogen en rustend hoofd
Weet ik dat de slaap spoedig komt.
Op mijn kussen, veilig in bed,
vullen duizend beelden mijn hoofd,
Waar wolken van dromen me helderziend
maken.
Wat voor dromen er ook komen,
donker en diep,
van vliegende vleugels en hoge sprongen
als ik me aan de slaap overgeef,
als ik me aan de slaap overgeef.
Sing, Sing, Sing
Louis Prima (1910-1978), arr. Deke Sharon (b.1967)
Louis Prima’s energetic swing-era classic,
Sing, Sing, Sing was popularized by Benny
Goodman in the late 1930’s. Since then, it
has been recorded by many others and has been
included in numerous films and commercials.
In this arrangement, the singers function as
instrumentalists, using “scat” syllables rather
than meaningful text.
Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the shining stars to you,
Deep peace of the gentle night to you,
Moon and stars pour their healing light on
you,
Deep peace of Christ the light of the world
to you.
Benny Goodman heeft eind jaren 1930 de
energieke klassieker Sing, Sing, Sing van
Louis Prima bekend gemaakt bij een groot
publiek.
In
wereld.
Praise to the Lord
German Chorale, 1668, Arr. F. Melius Christiansen (1871-1955)
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him,
for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
now to His temple draw near,
Join me in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work
and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily
attend thee;
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee!
Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me
adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with
praises before Him!
Let the Amen sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him!
Lof zij de Heer, de almachtige
Koning der ere.
Laat ons naar hartelust
zingen en blij musiceren.
Komt allen saam,
psalmzingt de heilige naam,
looft al wat ademt de Here!
over ons regent.
kinderen samen.
Hart wees gerust, Hij is uw licht en uw lust.
Alles wat ademt zegt: Amen.
