was formed to save and restore the home <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> the Bloomsbury<br />

Group. He also served on numerous other local committees.<br />

In 1948 John married Marianne Lundberg-Gertz and the couple enjoyed a<br />

long and happy marriage. John considered that he had lived a very happy life<br />

and was always grateful for his three years at King’s and for the friends he<br />

made there. He died on 14 June 2003, survived by Marianne and their sons<br />

John and Peter.<br />

HUMPHREY WALTER OSMOND (1945) was a schoolmaster who taught<br />

Modern Languages and spent 22 years teaching at Dean Close School<br />

in Cheltenham.<br />

He was born in London on 28 December 1927, and came up to King’s from<br />

Aldenham to read Modern Languages, studying French and German, and<br />

was awarded the Arthur Tilley Prize for French in 1946. After graduation<br />

Humphrey began his teaching career at Solihull School, but moved on after<br />

a year to the King’s School in Canterbury. His stay there was somewhat<br />

longer (16 years), and in addition to his teaching duties Humphrey also<br />

served as a Housemaster.<br />

In September 1965 Humphrey took up his final teaching appointment at<br />

Dean Close School. In addition to a further period as a Housemaster he was<br />

also, at various times, President <strong>of</strong> the Common Room and the Universities<br />

Adviser. After retiring in 1987 Humphrey stayed on at the school as a parttime<br />

archivist, a role he performed until 2002.<br />

His Christian faith was important to Humphrey. He became a Lay Reader in<br />

1976 and later served as Honorary Secretary to the Gloucester Diocesan<br />

Evangelical Fellowship. Humphrey died on 26 June 2006.<br />

JOHN BRANGWYN PAGE (1941), the last Chief Cashier <strong>of</strong> the Bank <strong>of</strong><br />

England, died at the age <strong>of</strong> 81 after a long struggle against ill health. He was<br />
