<strong>Harvard</strong> China Fund<br />
HARVARD CHINA SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAM<br />
The <strong>Harvard</strong> China Service-Learning Program aims to create transformational experiences for<br />
<strong>Harvard</strong> <strong>University</strong> students as they prepare for a lifelong engagement with China. Students<br />
are able to learn about China through their volunteer placements, research assignments, and<br />
classes with Peking <strong>University</strong> professors.<br />
The <strong>2010</strong> program will run for 18 days in January and offer volunteer placements in Beijing,<br />
Tianjin, and Inner Mongolia. Students will be expected to commit to the entire program. The<br />
program will be managed by the <strong>Harvard</strong> Shanghai Office, with support from the <strong>Harvard</strong><br />
China Fund's Cambridge Office.<br />
Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate students from all years of study and all<br />
concentrations are welcome. Chinese fluency is not required, though a familiarity with the<br />
language will be useful. Students with prior international travel and volunteering experience<br />
preferred.<br />
Cost: Once selected, interns will be asked to pay a $1,500 program fee. The fee will cover all<br />
expenses in China including housing, food, and inter-China travel. International airfare will be<br />
paid for separately and details will be given to students who have been accepted into the<br />
program.<br />
Program Length: Sunday January 3 rd to Thursday January 21 st .<br />
Program sites: All students will fly to Beijing. After one week in Beijing, students will be split<br />
into three groups. One group will complete the service week in Inner Mongolia, one in Tianjin,<br />
and one in Beijing. All students will then fly to Shanghai for debriefing.<br />
<strong>Application</strong> process: Applicants should submit their application form by October 9 th 2009.<br />
Select students will be invited for interviews during the week of October 26 th . Students will be<br />
notified on November 9 th of their acceptance into the program.<br />
One letter of recommendation, preferably from a resident dean, a former employer, or a faculty<br />
member, is required.
