Your New School
You will shortly be bidding farewell to the
current Grangemouth High School and
venturing into your new school for the first
time.
As can be seen from progress on site, the
construction of your new Grangemouth High
School is nearing completion. The opening of
the school will be the culmination of many
years of planning and preparation by both the
Council (not least your Depute Head Teacher,
Mr Derrick, who has played an integral role
throughout) and its partner, Falkirk Schools
Gateway Limited. As far back as 2004, the
Council decided to undertake this massive
investment to create state of the art facilities
fit for the education of its children in the 21st
century. It is very exciting that the fruits of
this investment are in sight.
The Council and Falkirk Schools Gateway are
both very proud of the new Grangemouth High
School and it is hoped that whether as a pupil,
teacher, member of school staff or community
user, you will thoroughly enjoy your use of and
time in the new facility.

What is the New School Like?
You will have been aware of the new building
sprouting out of the ground next to the current
school. What will not have been apparent from
just looking at the works from the outside is
the range of excellent facilities that are
contained within it.
Not only do the buildings contain first class
teaching facilities, they also contain a wide
range of excellent sports, drama and leisure
facilities including a swimming pool, an all
weather synthetic pitch, three grass pitches,
a dance/fitness suite, a games hall, a
gymnasium, a dining/social area, an assembly
hall and drama and stage facilities.
The drawings overleaf show the floor plans
of the new school as well as how the external
area of the school will finally look. It should be
explained that not all of the external features
will be ready on the opening day of the school
given that the grass pitches require to be
seeded and grown to a playable state before
use and the existing school will need to be
demolished before work can commence on
the westmost grass pitch.

Structure of the New Community
Schools Project
The new Grangemouth High School is one of
four schools procured by the Council’s New
Community Schools Project under the Non
Profit Distributing Organisation (NPDO) model.
The other three schools are replacements for
Denny High School, Falkirk High School and
St Mungo’s RC High school. The NPDO model
is a variant of Public Private Partnership but
with greater stakeholder involvement possible
within the main project company and surpluses
generated by the project company being
distributed to a nominated charity rather
than to shareholders by way of dividends.
The Council’s private sector partner is, as
noted above, a company called Falkirk Schools
Gateway Limited. This company is a consortium
comprising Stewart Milne Construction, Ogilvie
Construction, Forth Electrical Services (FES) and
Royal Bank of Scotland. Your new Grangemouth
High School has been constructed by Stewart
Milne Construction and the electrical and
mechanical installations throughout the new
school have been carried out by FES.
Services at the new school will be provided by
both the Council and FES’s Facilities
Management division. Building maintenance
and security responsibilities in particular will
rest with FES together with certain elements of
cleaning such as day to day reactive cleaning of
areas and cleaning of the pool areas. The
Council has, however, managed to retain a wide
sweep of services in its own control. These
include a range of janitorial services (the
current school janitors will stay within the
employment of the Council), catering, cleaning,
waste management and grounds maintenance
of the landscaped and grassed areas.
Community Use of the New School
The new school will not just be an excellent
centre of learning but will also be of great
benefit to the community, given the quality
and range of leisure and other facilities
available. Accordingly, outwith the school day,
the Council’s Community Services will be
encouraging and supporting community use
of the school for the benefit of all.
In conclusion
We hope that your new school facility will be
appreciated; enjoyed and respected by all of its
users and that the facility will contribute to
enhancing the whole of Grangemouth and its
surrounding areas.
