Design
Using state of the art Apple Macs and printing industry standard software, our experienced staff can prepare the print ready
files for all your newsletters, posters and marketing material.
If we are printing direct from your Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel files, we will check your logos and graphics comply
with corporate standards and simply get on with the job.
If you need a PDF emailed back to you for uplifting to the intranet, then that is all part of the service.
We can accept work by e-mail or, alternatively for larger files, by using our FTP site “FileZilla” (see our Plant List & Artwork
Information brochure for more details).
Digital Colour
For top quality production colour, the Xerox DC700 is the answer to all your short run print on demand needs. We produce
over 60,000 colour prints per month from business cards to prestige reports. For those just-in-time jobs, a same day or next
day service is the norm with many customers preferring to email their files to us as a PDF or in Word, Publisher and
PowerPoint. This print on demand service means you can target your print run to match your budget and cut down on
unnecessary waste by ordering too many copies. If the need arises, run lengths can be as low as single figures and all print
files are archived for easy retrieval or any additional copies so we can get into production within hours.
We now also offer an on-the-run personalisation service. This is ideal for certificates or for direct marketing to key clients and
does not cost any extra! Multiple lines of text can be placed on one piece of common artwork to give a real professional look
and give the document added value.
We can print on a wide range of stocks - silk, gloss, uncoated and even recycled. The quality is as near litho as possible as the
press is controlled by a Fiery RIP to ensure industry standard colour.
DI (Direct Imaging) & 1/2 Colour Conventional Litho Print
The Presstek 52DI press (installed January 2012) combines the highest quality offset printing with the ease-of-use, automation
and efficiency of digital printing. The entire printing operation is automated - from plate advancing to imaging, printing and
cleaning - in one compact, easy-to-use system. High quality results are easy to achieve, and we can print high volumes and
more jobs every shift... best value?
The key features of our new Presstek 52DI digital press are:
• All-digital workflow efficiency
• Highest quality of four-colour offset printing
• 300 Ipi and stochastic (FM) screening
• Print on a wide range of stocks from heavy card stock
to onion skin
• Automated set-up and printing with 10 minute makeready,
including imaging
• Waterless printing for superior colour range and image
definition
• Eliminates the equipment, labour, materials and costs of
off-press platemaking
• Environmentally friendlyWaterless
Environmental Advantages
Presstek DI is an environmentally superior process over
other printing methods. Environmentally friendly
features include chemistry-free imaging, reduced
paper waste, and waterless printing - which eliminates
waste water and significantly reduces VOC emissions.
Copying
To support the Council’s document strategy, our digital copiers now have the capability of online booklet making, including
the inserting of colour covers at no extra cost! Jobs can be emailed to the dedicated mailbox copy.centre@falkirk.gov.uk in all
Microsoft formats. Large runs and multi-page documents are easily coped with on paper or board. These machines are more
like print engines than copiers, so why waste valuable time trying to do that time critical job yourself? Pass it to the
professionals. 12,000 prints an hour are available all day, every day.
Scanning and Archiving
Now there is no need for filing cabinets full of paper files. Turn your hard copy documents into digital files. With the
installation of the Micro-press Imposition system we can now take any hard copy job and create a digital file. Once in the
digital format we can edit text, add or delete complete pages or just individual logos or pictures and finally provide a PDF for
you to print from or archive. Contact us for further information and a personal demonstration.
Finishing
Don’t let a poorly finished document ruin the presentation of your print work. We have the full range to choose from; wire,
comb binding, stapling, folding, as well as numbering and perforating. Plus, we have the ability to insert colour covers and
inserts into booklets online to give that quality finish at no extra cost.
Without Printworks, Community
Green Initiative could not function
successfully. We have been working with
Printworks since 2008 on so many projects we
have lost count - from posters to booklets to
banners to leaflets to newsletters. The quality
of their work, their courtesy and willingness to
guide and help us get the best product for the
best value has become something we can rely
on. We have compared and we know their
prices are the best for the quality of work. We
are a local customer and expect to
continue to be!
deliver a number of varied jobs from
booklets and banners, stickers and leaflets, and
calendars and diaries. They always deliver goods
Staff are always available to give updates or
make last minute design changes and can help
go back to them again and again.
Do remember to complete a print requisition form for all
jobs; the job reference number helps us to help you with
the progress on your order.
Do co-ordinate your printing; check with colleagues that
you are not requesting the same job (it does happen).
Do make any comments and suggestions you feel can
improve our performance.
Do tell us if this job is part of a larger order; for instance, we
can provide help and guidance on mailing and
personalisation.
Producing what you need, when you need it
In the financial year 2011/12, we produced 4224 jobs, 91.8% of which were
delivered on time; 8% were delivered earlier than the delivery date
requested with only 0.2% classified as being later than the delivery date
agreed.
Our job range continues to be diverse and varied - from the standard 1000
A4 letterheads to the 12pp A4 x 16k full colour “In the Neighbourhood”
tenants newsletters (the largest job we produce, which we also mail out).
They are all for discerning customers working to tight deadlines and to
even tighter budgets.
Since 2006, we have introduced a retrospective discount scheme and £116,870 has already been returned to Services on a prorata
basis linked to spend.
When we surpass the financial targets set by Finance, any excess surplus is returned to each Service by this pro-rata method.
In financial year 2009/10 a £40,000 rebate was returned whilst in the most recent year 2010/2011 £23,000 was returned.
Surplus for 2011/12 is still being calculated. However, it is expected to be in the region of £60,000.
This is a deliberate strategy which we are committed to continuing to ensure that the more support we receive from each
Service, the bigger the rebate they enjoy.
