Highlights<br />
• Record number and value of rental bonds held in<br />
custody by the <strong>Board</strong> at 30 June <strong>2007</strong> - 628,153<br />
rental bonds valued at $692.9 million.<br />
• $4.0 million in core service funds provided for<br />
the Tenants Advice and Advocacy Program<br />
(TAAP), which is jointly funded by the <strong>Board</strong> and<br />
<strong>Fair</strong> <strong>Trading</strong>.<br />
The <strong>Board</strong><br />
The <strong>Board</strong> is comprised of the Commissioner for<br />
<strong>Fair</strong> <strong>Trading</strong> as Chairperson, representatives of the<br />
Director-General of the Department of Housing and<br />
the Secretary of the Treasury, and two persons with<br />
experience in real estate or tenancy matters<br />
appointed by the Minister for <strong>Fair</strong> <strong>Trading</strong>.<br />
<strong>Rental</strong> <strong>Bond</strong> <strong>Board</strong> - <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>2007</strong><br />
• 13% growth in claims for refund of rental bonds<br />
submitted via the <strong>Rental</strong> <strong>Bond</strong> Internet Service<br />
(RBIS) - the online rental bond self-service<br />
channel for real estate property managers - and<br />
16% increase in RBIS rental bond inquiries.<br />
The <strong>Board</strong> is responsible for providing advice to the<br />
Minister, defining policy, considering applications<br />
for funding and monitoring and reviewing the<br />
performance of the custodial services, investments<br />
and funded programs. The <strong>Board</strong> is required to<br />
meet at least once each quarter.<br />
