Swine ID’s
The dates for getting swine tagged are from
April 1-15 th . The official taggers are David Reed
(651)257-6870, Jim Penzenstadler (651)257-
0868 and Curt Weaver (651)257-6332. Please
call one of these people to come and weigh and
tag your pigs. They must be weighed between
April 1-15. Remember that all market swine ID’s

This year’s shooting sports dates have been set.
They are as follows:

Dairy Meeting
There will be a dairy meeting for ALL dairy
project members and people who lease to the
dairy members on Saturday, April 6 th at 3:00
p.m. at the North Branch Senior Center. We will
discuss the rules for leasing as well as how to
fill out ID paperwork for all dairy members at
this meeting. There has been a lot of discussion
and confusion about what is the correct way to
fill out the paperwork as well as what the rules
are for leasing. I encourage you to be at this
meeting to get your questions answered.
LQA&E Training Level II
We trained enough trainers to hold our own
LQA&E Level II training this year. I would like to
thank Becca Blodgett, Dawn Schlipp, Lisa
Cardelli (Swenson), Katherine Swenson, Sara
Swenson and Dan Johnson for stepping forward
to do this. Our Level II training will take place
on Friday, April 12 th , from 5:30-8:30 at the
North Branch Senior Center. Please eat before
you come. Remember, anyone bringing an
animal to the fair with the exception of pets,
horses and dogs is required to complete LQA&E
training every 3 years. This must be done before
the fair registration is due. To find out if you
need it, look at 4HOnline and it will tell you
when you had it and when it is due. Please call
the office to sign up by Friday, April 5 th . If we do
not have enough people signed up to take this
class it will be cancelled.
Helping Hands 4-H Fundraiser
We have been offered the opportunity for
another fundraising opportunity. The Reisdorf
family is new 4-H members this year and they
are putting in an orchard. They need help
moving manure and dirt. On April 13 th & April
20 th from 9 a.m.-noon we will be helping them
with this job. Each person that puts in 2.5 hours
of work will earn $20 for the County 4-H. They
are willing to give up to a maximum of $800.

This would help us reach our goal of the $7500
we need to raise for 4-H. The club that works
the most hours will win a pizza party for their
May meeting. Please come and help the
Reisdorf’s and 4-H. Remember that 4-H is about
community service and giving back and this is a

PS. I expect to see some independent members
there since they didn’t participate in the cheese
fundraiser. Independent members are also
expected to do their part in fundraising and
giving back to the community.
Learn to Clog
Pleasant Valley Cloggers is offering a free
clogging lesson to 4-H members and their
families. It will be on April 30 th from 5:00 to

Cheese Fundraiser
We are still working on our numbers for the
cheese sale but it looks like we sold about
$12,000 in cheese. We did not reach our goal so
we will be doing more fundraisers. Those that
participated did very well and worked very hard.
We appreciate you all going out and selling so
much cheese!
Sheep ID’s
Sheep weigh day will be held on Saturday, May
4 th at the Hughes farm at 10 AM. In case of
inclement weather it will be held on May 11 th .

Enrollments Due
There are still many enrollments that are not in.
The deadline for getting in your re-enrollments
and still being eligible for State Fair trips is May
15.
Animal ID’s
Animal ID’s are due at the end of the business
day on May 15 th . All animals except poultry
require ID’s. If you don’t know what they are
ask your 4-H leader or call the office.
Volunteer Needs
We have several volunteer positions open in the
4-H program. We need:
Someone to be in charge of the Shop and
Aerospace area at the fair
Someone to be in charge of the Club and
Leadership area at the fair
Someone to be in charge of the
poster/Animal Science area at the fair.
People to be judges assistants and help
display the projects at the fair.
If you have a talent and would like to do a
workshop this spring we would be happy to
set one up!
Shooting Sports Coaches
Please call and volunteer. The 4-H program is
what it is because of volunteers.
PICCKMW Camp
Now is the time to make plans to attend
PICKMW Summer Camp. Sponsored by the
University of Minnesota Extension 4-H program
this camp is for all youth that have completed
grades 4-8.
Camp will be June 24-26 at the Norway Point
Group Camp located in St. Croix State Park just
east of Hinckley. Camp will include workshops,

crafts, campfires, swimming and much more!
Registration materials are now available in the
Extension Office, you also can register in
4HOnline. Campers do not need to be in 4-H to
attend, so bring a friend or two! Sign-up early to
take advantage of the early bird discount!
Fair Dates
The 2013 Chisago County Fair dates have been
set. The fair will be held July 17 th through the
21 st . The Carcass Show will be held July 23 rd and
the Dog Show will be July 27 th .
2013 NE 4-H Livestock Show
September 14 & 15 has been chosen for the
2013 Northeast 4-H Livestock Show in Brainerd.
This is also the 79 th year of this show!
Blue ribbon winners, in grades 3 and up, at the
county fair in beef, sheep, swine, market goat,
poultry, rabbit & dairy steers are eligible to
participate (animal/lot may not be exhibited at
the State Fair). All participants must also be
current in their LQA&E certification.
To participate, you must complete the
registration forms and pay your fees at your
county fair.
Be sure to check with your county to see if
scholarships are available!

volunteers:
Extension 4-H is committed to helping
Minnesota youth become the next generation of
scientists, engineers, and technology leaders,
and we need your help to make that
commitment a reality!
The 4-H Science Team is offering new training
in April and May for adult and youth volunteers
who are interested in creating exciting science
learning opportunities in their county or
regional area. The training is designed to help
volunteers learn about 4-H science, engineering,
technology and math projects, and become
confident and competent to facilitate science
learning experiences with/for young people in
their communities.
As a 4-H Science volunteer, you will help young
people see themselves as scientists and
engineers, and explore potential careers in
related fields. April and May training is being
offered in robotics, aquatic robotics,
engineering design, and photography/digital
media.
Volunteers participating in the
photography/digital media training will connect
young people to nature and their environment
through use of photography/digital media. In
the 4-H Engineering Design training, you will
learn to facilitate lessons such as Balls & Tracks,
Paper Bridges, and Rubber-band Powered Cars
that will guide youth in designing, constructing,
testing, and refining models using familiar
materials and tools. The Lego Robotics training
uses a manufactured Lego robot kit and laptop
computer to teach robot design, construction,
programming and problem solving. 4-H Junk
Drawer Robotics uses everyday low cost “junk
drawer” items to engage young people in the
design and engineering process. The Aquatic
Robotics training explores science, engineering,
technology and math skills to guide youth as
they design and build their own remoteoperated
vehicle to use and adapt it to monitor
the water quality of Minnesota's rivers, lakes or
streams.
Volunteers do not need a science or engineering
background to participate in the training. We
are seeking volunteers with an interest in
helping young people grow and who are willing
to learn and grow alongside our 4-H youth.

Join Us at the Upcoming
Regional Horse Meetings!
We are welcoming all to the next Regional Horse
meetings scheduled for April 13. This is a great
time to connect with persons in your area
around horse topics. The two hour agenda will
include a time for education on a topic
regarding horse in your region, as well as, time
to connect with your neighboring counties to
discuss best practices. There will also be time to
ask questions and clarification to your
questions around the 4-H Horse program. Bring
your comments to discuss. Your regional
representatives will be able to bring your
information back to the State Horse PDC. Your

Apply to Become a 2012-2013
Minnesota State 4-H
Ambassador
Ambassadors are a team of 30 diverse youth
leaders from across the state that represent and
serve the youth involved in Minnesota’s 4-H
programs. The Ambassadors work together
promoting inclusion in 4-H’s programs and
encourage youth to become actively involved in
their communities. Throughout the year-long
term of service, they teach youth and adults
about important topics such as leadership,
diversity, and teamwork. Ambassadors also
plan and facilitate several statewide 4-H youth
leadership events and assist 4-H youth, staff,
volunteers, and other groups with workshops,
training sessions, celebrations, and activities.
Any Minnesota 4-H member who has completed
10 th grade by summer 2013 and has at least one
year of 4-H eligibility remaining in the 2013-
2014 school year, is eligible to apply. Five
ambassadors will be selected to serve a second
year.
Selection of State 4-H Ambassadors will be done
by the State Ambassador PDC leaders in late
April/early May at designated sites. These sites
will be determined and sent to applying youth.

4-H Foundation Offering
Scholarship Opportunities
The Minnesota 4-H Foundation offers several
scholarships for 4-H’ers pursuing postsecondary
studies at accredited colleges and
universities. Please visit the 4-H Foundation

otherwise noted) are due to the Foundation

Minnesota 4-H Dog Project
Judges Seminars
The MN 4-H Dog Project will hold Judges
Seminars for current and prospective Judges.
These are seminars for current judges and
prospective judges in Agility, Rally, Obedience
and Showmanship.
It is NOT a seminar designed for younger 4-H
members (though a youth leader in a county
leadership position with interest in future
judging would be welcome).

2013 State 4-H Meat Goat
Conference
The conference will be held on April 27 at R&J
Horse Arena, Verndale. These programs are
intended for 4-H Goat families. No registration
is required. For more information, please visit

Meat Goat Judges training will be held following
the Meat Goat Conference. This training is open
to anyone over the age of 21. It will include
judging meat breeding animals, market animals,
showmanship and creating a state fair line-up.

Who is the training for?
Robotics and Aquatic Robotics offer training for
teams of two adults and three to five youth who
are in 6th grade or older.
Photography/Digital Media and Engineering
Design offer training for a team of two to four
people: two adults, who can be joined by one or
two youth leaders 8th grade or older who wish
to help give leadership in their county, or
additional adults.

Join Over 300 Youth at the
2013 YELLO!
Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Out
Loud! is an annual statewide, four-day
leadership conference with group discussions,
workshops, service opportunities, challenging
speakers and hands-on activities designed for
youth, hosted by the Minnesota 4-H State
Ambassadors.
The 2013 event will be held June 10-13 on the
Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Information will

Citizenship Washington Focus
An incredible experience awaits for a few more
Minnesota youth who want to attend the
Citizenship Washington Focus held in
Washington, D.C. There is also additional room
for adult volunteer chaperones (both male and
