Brandon Kallhoff, 2009-20010 Leaders Council President, was emcee for the evening. Special guests included: Graylen Carlson, Kiwanis, Clair Anderson, Lac qui Parle County Fair Board, and Stan Adelman, Lac qui Parle Pork Producers. Also involved in facilitating the evening’s program were Mary Ann Anderson, 4-H Program Coordinator and the Lac qui Parle County 4-H Ambassadors. Volunteers presenting awards included: Kalyn Gloege, Marissa Kemen, Anna Devorak, Tanya and Mary Roggenbuck, Jalen Baldwin, Brandon Kallhoff, Ted Berckes, Hayley Wittnebel, Ryan Olson, Michelle Olson and Philip Adelman. 1 st Year Membership Pins .<br />

5 th Year Membership Pins.


10 th Year Membership Pins. Membership pins were awarded to thirty 1 st<br />

year <strong>members</strong>, fifteen 5-year 4-H <strong>members</strong> <strong>and</strong> eleven 10- year <strong>members</strong>.<br />

These <strong>members</strong> received completion pins from Graylen Carlson, on behalf <strong>of</strong><br />

the Madison Kiwanis Club.<br />

Three Generation 4-H Families. The three generation 4-H family<br />

recognition is designed as a means <strong>of</strong> honoring families when a current<br />

member, a parent <strong>and</strong> a gr<strong>and</strong>parent have all been 4-H <strong>members</strong>.<br />

Presenting this year’s recipients with certificates was Michelle Olson.<br />

Recipients were: Joe & Tony Abramowski, Bryce & Grace Olson, <strong>and</strong><br />

Alyssa, Sydney & Layton Wittnebel. Not pictured: Austin & Jaden Kallh<strong>of</strong>f<br />

The Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Young Member Awards. Philip Adelman, North Stars 4-H<br />

Club President <strong>and</strong> Maizie Schacherer, Garfield Pacers 4-H Club Vice-<br />

President presented the outst<strong>and</strong>ing young member awards, to Cooper<br />

Schmidt, Freel<strong>and</strong> Telestars 4-H Club <strong>and</strong> Sydney Wittnebel, North Stars 4-<br />

H Club. The awards are presented to young people grade 3-7 who<br />

demonstrated success in 4-H through <strong>members</strong>hip, achievement, character<br />

<strong>and</strong> potential for <strong>leaders</strong>hip. Nominees receiving certificates <strong>and</strong> gifts from<br />

the 4-H Leaders Council included: Johanna Larson <strong>and</strong> Tasha Hall-Harris<br />

(not pictured), Boyd Rams; Joseph Bach (not pictured), Freel<strong>and</strong> Telestars;<br />

Danielle Jibben <strong>and</strong> Clayton Patzer (not pictured), Garfield Pacers; Jordan<br />

Graduation Awards. This year 8 young adults graduated from 4-H after 5<br />

to 12 years as a member <strong>of</strong> a local club. Mary Roggenbuck presented the<br />

awards. Graduates included: Stephen Enger. Not Pictured: Brian Dempcy,<br />

Erickson <strong>and</strong> Dana Laechelt.


Shamrock Dream Achievers Receive Kittelson Award for Membership.<br />

The Kittelson Award, a $25 award presented in memory <strong>of</strong> A.J. Kittleson who<br />

was the Superintendent <strong>of</strong> Schools in 1915 <strong>and</strong> instrumental in beginning 4-<br />

H Club Work in Lac qui Parle County, was awarded to Shamrock Dream<br />

Achievers 4-H Club. The award is given to the club with the best <strong>members</strong>hip<br />

retention, <strong>members</strong>hip gained <strong>and</strong> <strong>members</strong>hip/record completion. The<br />

Leader’s <strong>of</strong> this club during 2008-2009 was Gloria Kerkeart. The award was<br />

presented by Anna Devorak.


Leader Awards. Certificates <strong>and</strong> pins are awarded to club organizational<br />

<strong>leaders</strong> following their first year <strong>of</strong> service <strong>and</strong> every five years that follow.<br />

Committee Awards. Adult <strong>and</strong> youth <strong>leaders</strong> who have completed three<br />

years <strong>of</strong> service at the time they leave their role as committee member,<br />

coordinator, or project leader also receive length <strong>of</strong> service awards.<br />

Receiving these awards are: Jane Goplen for service on the Executive<br />

Board <strong>and</strong> Naomi Dempcy, Project Unlimited Committee.


Oust<strong>and</strong>ing Club Secretary. Kalyn Gloege presents the Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Club<br />

Secretary Award to Grace Hendrickson, Freel<strong>and</strong> Telestars. This award is to<br />

acknowledge the contributions <strong>of</strong> the 4-H club secretary who took notes at all<br />

the meetings <strong>and</strong> faithfully recorded club events.<br />

The Challenge Award was presented by Morgan Schmidt <strong>and</strong> is sponsored<br />

by the 4-H Leaders Council in cooperation with the American Youth<br />

Foundation in recognition <strong>of</strong> personal integrity, balanced living <strong>and</strong> potential<br />

for <strong>leaders</strong>hip. The award serves as a challenge for high school youth to<br />

increase their 4-H <strong>and</strong>/or community <strong>leaders</strong>hip efforts. Receiving the<br />

Challenge Awards were Ricki Kallh<strong>of</strong>f, Freel<strong>and</strong> Telestars <strong>and</strong> Alyssa<br />

Wittnebel, North Stars. Other nominees include: Rachel Larson,<br />

Sammantha Hoyles, Maizie Schacherer, Mariah Schacherer, Hunter Nelson,<br />

Carolyn Adelman <strong>and</strong> Katie Jenson. Not Pictured: Tate Collum


The Ed Nesvold Memorial Award for outst<strong>and</strong>ing youth <strong>leaders</strong>hip, a $100<br />

savings bond was presented by Clair Anderson on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Lac qui Parle<br />

County Fairboard to Kalyn Gloege, North Stars 4-H Club.<br />

The Outst<strong>and</strong>ing 4-H Ambassador Award was presented to Marissa<br />

Kemen, Riverside Rockets 4-H Club, by Br<strong>and</strong>on Kallh<strong>of</strong>f, 4-H Ambassador<br />

President. The award, a $25 award recognizes a youth leader who has<br />

enhanced their <strong>leaders</strong>hip skills through participation in educational<br />

workshops <strong>and</strong> practical experiences, designed <strong>leaders</strong>hip <strong>and</strong> social<br />

opportunities for teens, conducted community service activities, <strong>and</strong> provided<br />

visibility <strong>and</strong> promotion for 4-H.


Top Sales People. Marissa Kemen, Leaders Council youth treasurer<br />

awarded the top salesmanship efforts. The $25.00 cash award for top<br />

salespeople are provided by Minntex for Fruit Sales <strong>and</strong> Lac qui Parle<br />

County Fairboard for Ride Ticket Sales.<br />

Swine Grade <strong>and</strong> Yield Awards, sponsored by the Lac qui Parle County<br />

Pork Producers, are given based on results from swine sold grade <strong>and</strong> yield<br />

following county fair. Stan Adelman, presented the award on behalf <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pork Producers to Maizie Schacherer who received the Honorable Mention<br />

award. No pictured: Alyssa Kemen received Champion <strong>and</strong> Isaac Adelman<br />

received Reserve Champion.


Project Medallions. Many 4-H <strong>members</strong> received certificates <strong>and</strong> project<br />

pins for outst<strong>and</strong>ing work in the project as documented in their 4-H records.<br />

Farm Bureau Award goes to the North Stars. The North Stars 4-H Club<br />

accepted the 2009 Farm Bureau Award. The North Stars 4-H Club whose<br />

<strong>leaders</strong> were Janice & Paul Streich, Ciska Goerres, <strong>and</strong> Kelly Wittnebel<br />

during 2008-2009, received a trophy <strong>and</strong> a $100 award given in memory <strong>of</strong><br />

Charles Beninga, long time leader for Farm Bureau. The award is based on<br />

points accumulated for <strong>members</strong>hip, organization, community service, 4-H


promotion, education <strong>and</strong> member participation at club, county <strong>and</strong> state<br />

levels<br />

4-H Alumni Award. Jalen Baldwin (right) awarded the 4-H Alumni Award to<br />

Curt Baldwin. Curt was a 6 year member <strong>of</strong> the Lakeshore Cloverleafs 4-H<br />

Club <strong>and</strong> showed in Leadership, Small Engines <strong>and</strong> Dairy each year. He<br />

even went to the State Fair with his dairy <strong>and</strong> has told many how much work<br />

<strong>and</strong> fun it was! He is very willing to help the 4-H <strong>members</strong> <strong>and</strong> encourages<br />

them. He now has his family actively involved in his former club. As a<br />

former 4-H member he is using his background to help the youth <strong>of</strong> our<br />

county <strong>and</strong> sets an example <strong>of</strong> his accomplishments. He attributes his<br />

<strong>leaders</strong>hip <strong>and</strong> citizenship to his 4-H background. He sets an example for<br />

the youth <strong>and</strong> other adults with his actions <strong>and</strong> what can be accomplished.


Friend <strong>of</strong> 4-H Award. Duane Haugen <strong>of</strong> Haugen Insurance accepted the Friend <strong>of</strong> 4-H<br />

Award. This award winner has been very noticeable within the county for many years. The<br />

family was in 4-H <strong>and</strong> even after their children graduated, they volunteered for 4-H by<br />

allowing the 4-H fruit to be delivered in the backroom <strong>of</strong> their business <strong>and</strong> run a lunch<br />

counter during August Entry Day. They continue to support the 4-H program by buying<br />

ribbons at the livestock ribbon auction, sponsor the pets trophy <strong>and</strong> donated a much<br />

needed new grill for the 4-H foodst<strong>and</strong>. They are big <strong>volunteers</strong> for the Walk <strong>of</strong> Hope <strong>and</strong><br />

contact 4-H club for help. Not pictured: Suzi Haugen<br />

4-H Key Award. Philip Adelman presented Kalyn Gloege, North Stars <strong>and</strong><br />

Katie Jenson, Riverside Rockets, with key necklaces sponsored by MN<br />

Valley Light & Power Association. The 4-H Key Award is the highest<br />

<strong>leaders</strong>hip award youth can receive in the 4-H program <strong>and</strong> the requirements


<strong>of</strong> this award include age 16 or older, 5 years as a 4-H member, 3 years as<br />

an active Youth Leader, <strong>and</strong> active <strong>leaders</strong>hip in at least 7 different areas.<br />

4-H Livestock Scholarship Award was presented to Stephen Enger by<br />

Stan Adelman, Livestock Committee Chairman.<br />

4-H Herdsmanship Award was presented to the goat <strong>and</strong> sheep project<br />

<strong>members</strong>.

The 4-H Ambassadors did an awesome job <strong>of</strong> decorating <strong>and</strong> presenting at<br />

the 2009 4-H Awards Night held on October 10, 2009.
