You’ll need to check in 30 minutes before
your train is due to leave, but be sure to
leave plenty of time to pick up your tickets
at the station if you’re not printing them at
home or collecting them in advance. After
all, there’s only one direct train to the South
of France a week and we wouldn’t want you
to miss it.
A bit About luggAge
You can bring along 2 large bags (no longer
than 85cm in length) plus one small piece of
hand luggage. If you’d like to take a bike with
you, it’ll need to be in a bike bag no longer
than 85cm long and will count as one of your
pieces of luggage. Children travelling with a
child’s ticket can travel with a minimum of 1
large bag and 1 piece of hand luggage.
You’ll find large luggage racks at the end
of the coaches – these are only for large
suitcases. Smaller suitcases, bags and folding
pushchairs can be stored in the overhead
luggage racks and behind seats. We also
have some extra seats available in each
coach, which can be used as extra space for
bags and pushchairs. We’ll mark these seats
as spare seats for luggage.
Door-to-door luggage delivery
If you prefer to travel light and have your
bags waiting for you when you arrive, our
luggage delivery partner, First Luggage, can
collect your bags from your home before
you leave and deliver them directly to
your destination. Eurostar travellers on La
Route du Soleil get a 10% discount, plus an
additional offer of a second bag at half price.
StAndArd premier?
Standard Premier gives you the freedom to
stretch out, relax or simply unwind. After
a short 30 minute check-in, you can pick
up a complimentary magazine from the
rack and relax in your large, comfortable
seat. Don’t worry if your phone or tablet
battery is low – simply charge it with the
onboard socket by your seat. As part of
your Standard Premier journey, we’ll also
serve you a choice of two main dishes and a
dessert at your seat, along with a choice of
drinks to accompany your meal.
If you’re vegetarian or you’d like to order a
child meal or other special meal, just make
sure you do this in advance.
StAndArd ClASS?
Standard is the perfect option for travellers
on a budget, with comfortable seats and
a bar buffet where you can buy food and
drinks at any time during the journey.
Most Standard seats don’t have power
sockets – if you know you’ll need one,
call our team to see if any seats with
power points are available.
Quiet CoACheS
Whether you’re reading, daydreaming or
having a good snooze, the perfect place
to do it is the quiet coach in Standard
Premier. This will be in coach 11 on the
train to France and coach 8 on the way to
the UK. If you’re in the quiet coach, we just
ask that any phone calls are taken outside
in the vestibule and families with kids
choose another carriage, to keep the quiet
coach as peaceful as can be. If you’ve got
a seat in a quiet coach and would like to
swap to another carriage, you can change
your seat before or after printing your
ticket. To do this, go to the Manage Your
Booking section of Eurostar.com or call us
on 08432 186 186 (from the UK) or
01 70 70 60 88 from France.
wi-fi
We’re still working on installing wi-fi on our
trains. So, for now, it’s a good idea to make
sure you’ve downloaded everything you
need before you board.
trAvelling with
Keeping the kids busy and comfortable on
a long journey is probably one of the many
things on your list, so we’ve put together
five of our tried and tested top tips for a
happy journey en famille.
1. “Are we there yet?”
Don’t worry if you forgot the colouring
books in a last minute rush – you’ll find
a handy WH Smith in the departure
lounge. There the kids can pick up books,
comics, crayons, colouring pencils, word
puzzle books and more, while you choose
which bestseller you’d like to spend the
journey with.
2. “I want the window seat!”
If you’re travelling with children, a good
tip is to be seated on a table of four, so
the kids can sit and play together and you
can enjoy some quality time as a family.
Coaches 1 and 18 have the most tables, but
luggage space is limited in these coaches,
so it might not be the best option if you’ve
got lots of bags and pushchairs with you.
If your seats have already been allocated
and you’re not sitting at a table, you can
go to Eurostar.com to change seats or give
us a call to see if there’s a table available.
3. “I’m big enough to do it myself.”
At Eurostar, we know kids are explorers
by nature, so we love it when they get
involved with the check-in process. They
can scan their own tickets and whizz
through the gates before they close, put
their bags through security and show their
own passport to customs. If they need a
helping hand, just point them towards our
team – we’ll be happy to help.
4. “No, Daddy, it’s my iPad.”
If you’re bringing along any tablets,
portable DVD players, mini kids’
computers, etc, just remember that not
all seats have power sockets, so getting
everything fully charged before you leave
home is a good plan. It’s also important
to pack headphones, so Finding Nemo
doesn’t interrupt the Stephen King novel
being read at the next table.
5. “I’m huuuungry…”
Feel free to bring any food you like with
you on the train. If you’d rather wait and
see what you fancy when you’re onboard,
you’ll find Waitrose snacks and treats
(both healthy and naughty) for kids and
grown ups in our bar buffets. If you’re
travelling in Standard Premier, you can
pre-book a kids’ meal to be served at your
seat – just reserve it at least 24 hours
before you travel, either online or by
calling our team.
Arriving
hiring A CAr
Planning to
drive through
the French
countryside
with the top
down and the wind in your hair? If you’ve
booked a hire car with our partner, Avis,
here’s what you need to know.
If you’re travelling to Avignon, our train will
be arriving at Avignon TGV station. In the
summer months, we run a direct service
to Avignon Centre, a different station in
Avignon which appears as Avignon Eurostar
on the Avis website, so make sure you know
which station you’ve booked to collect your
car. If you need to transfer from Avignon
TGV to Avignon Centre station on the day,
there’s a shuttle bus (navette) between the
two stations.
Just call Avis directly to confirm your
booking or make a change in French or
English. Avis Customer Service opening
times are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
south exit (sortie sud) and you’ll find the Avis
office outside the station in the car park.
Aix-en-Provence TGV
On arrival at Aix station, take the footbridge
over the platform to the main station
entrance. Use the main station exit, called
Coming home
Your journeY bACk to the uk
On your return journey, you’ll need to go through security screening
and check-in before entering the Channel Tunnel. Local French
stations aren’t able to provide this, so these checks will be carried
out in the Eurostar area at Lille Europe station on the way back to
the UK. There’ll also be a quick ticket check onboard on your journey
to Lille. So, while we recommend you leave yourself enough time to
reach your station when you’re returning from Aix, Avignon or Lyon,
you won’t need to check in there.
When you arrive in Aix-en-Provence, Avignon or Lyon stations
to head home, your train details will be displayed on the station
screens with the destination as London (or Londres).
Here’s
finding Your
boArding point
Here’s a handy tip for finding your
boarding point in Aix-en-Provence,
Avignon, Lyon and Lille stations
– in French stations, you’ll find a
‘Composition des trains’ screen, (like
the example to the left) which will help
you find the right place to wait on the
platform for your carriage.
Usually, letters of the alphabet are used
to designate a zone on the platform and
the ‘Composition des trains’ screen shows
the zone for your carriage.
When you arrive in Lille, you’ll need to
head straight upstairs to Eurostar
check-in using the staircase, escalator
or lift. Eurostar check-in is in the Hall 4
zone of Lille Europe station. To check in,
have your ticket and your passport or
identity card ready. Check-in closes 30
minutes before your train leaves.
To find your Eurostar carriage in Lille
on your final leg of the journey, use the
Composition des trains poster on the
platform. So, then all you need to do
is find the zone that corresponds to
your carriage number and wait for
your train to arrive.
