He is the Director General for Cultural Politics in the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is also Deputy Chairman of the „Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe“in Vienna and Secretary General of the „Austrian Research Association“. Ambassador Brix has written widely on the history and politics of Central and Eastern Eu- rope. Among other high level positions, he served as the first Austrian Consul General in Cracow, Poland. Ambassador Brix received his doctorate from the University of Vienna. Reynaert Chairman of AeA Europe Thomas Reynaert has been elected Chairman of AeA Europe. Mr Reynaert is Director Eu- ropean Affairs, Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs (EMEA) of Nortel Networks. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of Nortel Networks N.V./S.A. (Belgium/ Luxembourg) Prior to joining Nortel, he was the Director of EU Public Affairs for Lucent Technologies (today: ‘Alcatel-Lucent’). Mr Reynaert holds degrees from the University of Antwerp, the College of Europe, and VLEKHO. J U N E 1 1 t h A N D 1 2 t h , 2 0 0 7 , B R U S S E L S Ligné Secretary General of new EGBA Sigrid Ligné has been appointed Secretary General of the new European Gaming and Bet- ting Association. Ms Ligné started her career working for the Legal Service of the Council of the EU and the EC. Over the last ten years she has been responsible for several Brussels- based and pan-European lobbying and communications campaigns. In 2001 she became Managing Director of EuroRSCG’s European Affairs agency in Brussels. Ms Ligné holds degrees from the Universities of Lund, Rennes and the College of Europe. Reinertsen Joins Trace Tracker Olav Reinertsen has taken up his new appointment as Head of the Brussels Office and Director for Public Affairs of Trace Tracker Innovation ASA. Before joining TraceTracker, Mr Reinertsen held several senior positions as a diplomat in the Norwegian MFA, including Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Prior to that, he was a member of the Norwegian negotiation team in the GATS negotiations in Geneva. Mr Reinertsen has a Masters degree in from the Universität Bamberg and the Norwegian School of Management. Brix President of EUNIC<br />

Ambassador Emil Brix has taken over the presidency of EUNIC, <strong>European</strong> Union National<br />

Institutes for Culture. He is the Director General for Cultural Politics in the Austrian Ministry<br />

Pawel Konzal is the Director of the Brussels Representative Office of the Polish Oil and Gas<br />

Company (PGNiG). Previously, Mr Konzal served as Advisor to the President of Polish Oil<br />

and Gas Company and prior to that he was Advisor to the Minister of the Economy. He<br />

has also worked as a consultant in a IT company. Mr Konzal received his Master’s from<br />

the National Louis University in Poland.<br />

Kaye Editor of ENDS Europe<br />

Paul Kaye will take over as editor of ENDS Europe, Europe’s premier EU environment<br />

policy news service, effective 2nd April. Mr Kaye has many years of experience with the<br />

magazine and prior to his promotion he served as the deputy editor and chief EU corre-<br />

spondent for the online publication. Mr Kaye has worked previously as a journalist and<br />

as an interpreter and translator of Czech and Slovak languages. He received his Masters<br />

from Lancaster University.<br />

Elodie Mohen has been promoted to Consultant at Blueprint Partners, where she will<br />

employ her expertise in telecommunications, intellectual property rights, and gambling<br />

issues. Ms Mohen has previous consulting experience in the entertainment distribution<br />

practice with expertise in the <strong>European</strong> institutions decision making process. She was edu-<br />

cated at Sorbonne University (Paris IV), the Gerhard Mercator Universität, and obtained a<br />

Masters from the Institut Supérieur du Management Public et Politique in Brussels.<br />

Bruegel (www.bruegel.org), an independent economic think tank based in Brussels, is seeking a Deputy<br />

Director. The position is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to contribute to the quality of economic<br />

policymaking in Europe through factbased and policy-relevant research, analysis and discussion.<br />

Research Leadership<br />

You will assume leadership for at least one of Bruegel’s current areas of research (Growth drivers for Europe ; <strong>European</strong> and global<br />

integration ; Macroeconomic policies and institutions ; and Interdependence and regulation), generally help supervise and guide<br />

research in all areas, and present and discuss Bruegel’s findings externally.<br />

Management Responsibilities<br />

As the alternate to the Director in all management functions, you will help manage Bruegel’s operations, staff and budget. You<br />

will help formulate strategy and supervise research and publications by Bruegel’s research fellows. You will also contribute to<br />

developing relations with the <strong>European</strong> policy community and with Bruegel’s members. Together with the Director, you will help<br />

write and present the annual report and budget for Board consideration.<br />

Qualifications<br />

You are likely to have at least 12 years of experience either in academia or in a policymaking institution, with a record in economic<br />

policy research. You have had managerial responsibilities at the level of a university department, a research team or a government<br />

division. Experience with structural policy analysis would be an advantage.<br />
