It was accepted that traditional lottery operations are
probably not a target for this criminal activity but it
would appear that sports betting and casino games remain
attractive options.
With the rapid advances in technology, and with the
sheer scale of devices and platforms available, the internal
IT departments of Lotteries are now confronted
with many security challenges. Alexander Krenn, Head
of IT security at Austrian Lotteries (Austria) presented a
very comprehensive overview of new technology challenges
from an internal IT point of view.
Carlos Bachmaier introduced an exercise entitled “Security
is business: Score yourselves!!!!”. This was an innovative
tool for stakeholders to assess their present
operational security situation.
An Independent Control system for lottery operations
is an important safeguard to protect against fraud and
maintain integrity. Torbjörn Borg, Chief Information
Security Officer at Svenska Spel (Sweden), gave details
of the different systems available and the procedure
and processes used in Sweden.
Thierry Pujol closed the seminar thanking the delegates
for their participation, and the suppliers for their
generous support. He also warmly thanked the administration
of the European Lotteries and the welcome,
support and hospitality of Eurofootball Bulgaria.
At the end of the day the feedback from delegates was
that this had been an excellently organised, well run,
enjoyable and very informative seminar.
