EL/WLA SECURITY AND RISK MANAGEMENT SEMINAR SOFIA / BULGARIA WORKSHOPS Over 60 delegates from 22 countries representing 38 different lottery related organisations gathered in the Hilton Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria, for the EL / WLA Security and Risk Management seminar. On Thursday 16th June, following a welcoming reception and dinner, the seminar opened with a speech of welcome from Mr. Nick Arsenopoulos, the C.E.O. of Eurofootball (Bulgaria), who wished the seminar every success and stressed the importance of security and risk management and the need to share experience and information. Thierry Pujol, Chair of the WLA Security and Risk Management Committee (WLA SRMC), the EL Security 32 NEWS 37 SEPTEMBER 2011
and Risk Management Working Group and Director of Security and Risk Management at La Française des Jeux, introduced members of both committees and highlighted the projects and tremendous amount of work that was in the process of being completed by both bodies. The objectives of the seminar were also highlighted and endorsed by moderator John Branscombe of J2B Security Ltd. Trond Laupstad, Head of Security at Norsk Tipping (Norway), Thierry Pujol, Claude Mathieu, Head of Internal Audit, and Daniëlla Van Reeth, Information Security Advisor of the Loterie Nationale (Belgium), described how their Lotteries were dealing with issues surrounding retail security. Trond Laupstad concentrated on the well-established playerregistrationcardsysteminNorway,whilstThierry Pujol explained the comprehensive monitoring process in France that has over 21,000 annual visits to retail outlets by security personnel to identify retailers who are not complying with procedures in relation to checking proposed winning tickets and the payment of prizes. WORKSHOPS Claude and Daniëlla outlined the Belgium Loterie Nationales’ retail monitoring programme. At the conclusion of the presentations the group formed a panel, taking many questions from the floor and it was clearly apparent that retail security is still an important topic of concern. Risk Management always arouses a great deal of interest.Two excellent presentations were given by Antonio Gorrasi, IT Security Manager at Lottomatica SpA (Italy) and Christos Dimitriadis, Head of Information Security at Intralot (Greece), describing how their organisations were dealing with risks and related issues. Paul Jay, Head of IT Security and Networks at Camelot UK Lotteries Ltd (UK) outlined how Camelot had painstakingly reviewed its security focus in an effort to make established controls and processes more business and user friendly without diluting overall security and integrity.
