Direct Thermal papers
If you want to benefit from the VIP market
without the fuss of handling a thermal
transfer ribbon, a unique construction
called Fasson Thermal Premium Top S 10 D
offers an ideal opportunity. The thermal
topcoat combines the best qualities of both
high speed direct thermal print and thermal
transfer print, in a laminate that can run
through conventional thermal printers.
According to Gwenaelle Legarrec, Product
Manager Thermal Papers, the potential
applications are huge. “It offers high resolution,
high heat and UV resistance, with longterm
storage capability, resulting in a much
larger scope of applications for the end user.”
Popular adhesives increase the
potential for profit
The paper is offered with two multi-purpose
adhesives, Fasson S2000N and Fasson S2045.
With the emulsion Fasson S2000N, you can
enjoy vastly improved conversion speeds,
and so increased productivity, while the
high-tack hotmelt Fasson S2045 is excellent
especially in low temperature environments

like supermarket food counters. The new
paper is produced on 2 metre coaters, sited
in France and Luxembourg, which were
recently commissioned to produce Fasson
materials. “These state-of-the-art machines
ensure the very highest levels of product
consistency” says Gwenaelle.
Wider range of applications and
improved hygiene performance
One of the many profitable possibilities for
the new paper is in fresh meat packaging.
In recent blood stain resistance tests, the
paper was immersed for 7 days in blood,
after which the barcode was still perfectly
legible. Says Gwenaelle, “this makes it an
ideal replacement for thermal transfer,
removing the need to manipulate the thermal
ribbon, which can raise hygiene issues when
handling or packaging fresh food”
Because of its excellent performance in high
temperature (up to 110°C for short intervals),
the paper is also ideal for labelling hot
meal trays, as Gwenaelle explains. “Airline
inflight meals, hospitals, works canteens
– applications that typically use thermal
transfer – can now enjoy all the benefits of
a single consumable, no waste, and no label
discoloration.” This also makes it ideal for
warehouses with high ambient temperatures.
“Tests with a shrink-wrapping machine
showed that even at high ambient temperatures,
the pallet barcode was perfectly
readable beneath the wrapper, with no
discoloration.
