As well as offering product differentiation, Engineered Solutions can also be a source of profitable new business opportunities. Several global successes originated as Engineered Solutions, including the now-famous ‘Energy Strip’ in Duracell batteries, as well as the development of the self-adhesive stamp, which is now more popular than the traditional gummed variety. Because of the commercially sensitive nature of such projects, Engineered Solutions are guarded by the strictest levels of customer confidentiality, which means that many customer success stories often go unreported. Thanks to the co-operation of NSD and Diamant however, we can report a recent example from The Netherlands.

No-Stick autocollar delights cooking-oil customer The story began last year in The Netherlands, with Dutch converter NSD. Vincent Scheirman, Customer Product Engineer, takes up the story. “The end-user Diamant produces oil for deep frying, and planned a special money-back offer on one of its products – customers send back a voucher from the bottle and get a 2-euro discount. This meant we couldn’t use self-adhesive labels, so we developed a special No-Stick booklet, which NSD applied as an autocollar.” William Stauthamer, Calculator at NSD, was impressed with the results: “When we called Vincent, we told him the materials requirement, and very quickly we took delivery of what we needed. We printed the label first, then the special offer leaflet, which we applied to the base label. Finally we die-cut the construction and dispensed it via autocollar. Diamant was very very pleased, and I know if they need a different type of label next year, we will be able to deliver without a problem.” Vincent explains the technical specifications: “the component is based on a No- Stick fugitive adhesive and Fasson MC90, with controlled release from the carrier allowing automatic dispensing. The booklet is then dispensed around the neck of the bottle, with the No-Stick adhesive providing vehicle enabling non pressure sensitive products to be converted via reel fed print and diecutting, on conventional roll label presses.” Fasson Mix & Match – combining products for proven success The other component of Fasson Specialty is Fasson Mix and Match, offering any combination of more than 200 faces, 50 adhesives and 20 liners – more than 50,000 in total. Dermot Somers from Multiprint in Ireland explains why his company uses Fasson Mix and Match. “The service allows us to offer our customers true flexibility. For instance recently we used a filmic liner on a standard product to offer our customers increased application speed, helping them improve productivity. Fasson Mix and Match is also ideal for small minimum orders and short lead times on more specialised products.” Contact your local Fasson sales representative for more details, or visit our website for more details: www.europe.fasson.com > products > products samples 11
