In the growing season irrigation is started when leaves that tend to wilt during daytime do not recover completely in the evening (IRS). In Belgium, Poland, Denmark and Finland (representing about 20% of EU beet area), sugar beet is not irrigated at all (CIBE-CEFS, 2010).
