To prevent damage by underground parasites insecticides (CURATER: Carbofuran) are applied to the soil as granules at the time of sowing (in Belgium and France this product is prohibited). In the second half of the growing season the crop is sprayed against leaf diseases 1-2 times and against aphids, again 1-2 times (Van den Brink, 2008) (Table 15). Typical timings of pesticide applications are presented in Figure 7. Most foliar insecticides are applied in May, June and July to control aphids and flea beetles. Page 35 of 66
