ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED 40MW OPEN CYCLE GAS TURBINE POWER PLANT IN THE AMERSFOORT AREA, MPUMALANGA<br />

ISSUE AREA OF POTENTIAL IMPACT RECOMMENDATIONS<br />

• Gas released from the stacks of the 40MW OCGT<br />

as well as from the flare of the UCG pilot plant and<br />

safety valves during regular or upset conditions;<br />

• Release of condensate from the processing plant;<br />

• Material transfer operations;<br />

• Wind erosion from exposed storage piles (sand for<br />

construction); and<br />

• Vehicle entrained dust from both paved and<br />

unpaved road surfaces.<br />

The following activities are associated with the<br />

decommissioning phase:<br />

• Existing buildings and structures demolished,<br />

rubble removed and the area levelled;<br />

• Remaining exposed excavated areas filled and<br />

levelled using overburden<br />

• Topsoil replaced using topsoil recovered from<br />

stockpiles; and<br />

• Land and permanent waste piles prepared for revegetation.<br />

Possible sources of fugitive dust emission during the<br />

closure and post-closure phase include:<br />

• Grading of sites;<br />

• Infrastructure demolition;<br />
